Job description

Campaigns and Activism Lead

35 hours per week - Hybrid

£35,000

Across our three pillars – Enable Cares, Enable Works and Enable Communities – we are one of the most impactful organisations in delivering support, employability and skills services, and advocacy on behalf of people with additional support needs and their families in communities across Scotland. Enable is at the forefront of innovation in the provision of our services, as we work to achieve a more equal society on behalf of all those we support.

We now have an opportunity for a Campaigns and Activism Lead to join our External Affairs and Campaigns team based in Inspire House at Eurocentral. This role will be part office and part home based, but will require travel across Scotland to attend events.

The Campaigns & Activism Lead will join an award-winning campaigning team to lead the delivery and development of membership led campaigns and activism, specifically working on our Rights Now! campaign, supported by Acorns To Trees, for new legislation to protect and promote the rights of people with learning disabilities in Scotland. The priority for this role is to influence the successful development of the Scottish Government’s Learning Disability, Autism and Neurodiversity Bill, ensuring that the voices of people who have a learning disability are at the heart of influencing the process.

You will work within the team to engage strategically with both local and national stakeholders, ensuring opportunities are identified for Enable members to participate, and that relationships are maintained, with lead responsibility for the Cross-Party Group on Learning Disability.

You will work as part of a team to develop all aspects of Enable's campaigns and activism work co-designed with our members in line with key policy priorities, particularly our Rights Now! campaign.

You will design and implement our campaigns and activism plans, and, working with our Campaigns Team, empower people who have learning disabilities and their families to take positive action to achieve change.

You will be creative, solutions focused, and values driven; an experienced and astute influencer, with a strong understanding of the Scottish political system, excellent communication and research skills, ability to use and present data engagingly and effectively, and a passion for human rights and leading change.

You will have the opportunity to work with an experienced and effective campaigning team to deliver a high profile campaign focused on delivering legislative change in Scotland in this parliament. This is a fixed term maternity cover post until the conclusion of the campaign funding on 31 March 2024, covering a time period which is the most crucial phase of the campaign, with a formal Scottish Government consultation scheduled for the second half of this year.

You will have the opportunity to work with people with learning disabilities who are passionate and committed self-advocates for their rights, to work on a campaign with a high media profile, and to work closely with stakeholders across the learning disability sector, Scottish Government officials and elected representatives and their offices.
