ABOUT BOSWORTH INDEPENDENT COLLEGE
Bosworth Independent College is a relatively small college of approximately 300 students. This enables us to offer a supportive family atmosphere, where students and staff can enjoy their work and thrive as valued people and professionals. Students come from a wide variety of countries and are motivated and aspirational, mostly aiming for Russell Group and Oxbridge.
OVERVIEW OF THE JOB
Set on the ground floor of this very prestigious 46,500 sq ft site, Grade II listed building, our new Café opening in Sept 2022, with three separate lounge, seating and conservatory areas will, no doubt, draw lots of customers from students and staff alike. Currently being decorated and fitted with all new equipment, the Newton Café will be the ideal location for a baguette and coffee whilst doing some quiet studying or reading a book, or for a group of friends to get together to have a cold drink and a catch-up during break time!
We have an exciting opportunity to be a central part of the team as Café General Assistant, supporting the Café Supervisor, the person responsible for the day to day running of the Café.
Our busiest time in the Café will be 12pm-2pm Mon-Fri, so the General Assistant shift will be 11.30am-3.30pm, and the role will be focused on supporting the Café whilst it’s open wherever required (preparing and serving food and drinks, working on the till taking payments, clearing and cleaning empty tables), and cleaning the café after closing time, preparing it for opening the next morning.
All of these duties will assist the college in obtaining and maintaining the Café’s 5 Star rating awarded as inspected by Environmental Health Organisation and achieving a high level of quality and standards at all times regarding the food and hygiene, ensuring all health and safety procedures in relation to Catering are adhered to.

The following section outlines a more detailed, but not exhaustive, description of the role:
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the overall day to day running of the Café
Provide, produce and serve Hot and Cold snacks and drinks
Maintain safe working practices and ensure quality products are served and value for money achieved
Manage payment (cash or card) transactions with customers (students, visitors, staff)
Keep the Cafe and Storeroom clean and free of rubbish
Assist with start-up/close-down procedures each day (Mon-Fri)
Maintain the furniture and fittings within the Cafe
Maintain safe and comfortable conditions in the Cafe demise for all staff, student and visitors
To report any incidents, accidents, near misses or complaints to the Café Supervisor
Review of all HACCP, COSHH, Level 2 Hygiene, HIT Training & SFBB procedures.
Government legislation requirements (food policy in schools/boarding standards agency).
Identify the areas for improvements in relation to the Cafe and consult with Café Supervisor
Assist with the evacuation of the Cafe area ensuring that students and staff at times of evacuations
Ensure that requirements of the company security procedures are observed
Cross College Responsibilities
Other related duties as directed by the Head Chef or Operations Manager from time to time
You may also be required to undertake additional duties during our busy Summer School period
To adhere at all times to College standards (consistent with the Staff Handbook).
To provide general support and cover across the organisation as required.

Person Specification
Previous experience working in a fast-paced café environment as a server.
Broad understanding of Catering facilities and regulations associated with
Good communicator and negotiation skills, with calm and diplomatic approach
Good level of spoken and written English, with clarity of speech
Problem-solving abilities
Ability to work using own initiative and within timeframes
Numerate, accurate and computer literate
Ability to cope working under time pressure, meet deadlines and can prioritise conflicting demands without causing disruption to other colleagues
Remains balanced and rational in dealing with others
