Duration: 12 weeks commencing 5 June 2023
Base Location: Glasgow or Aberdeen
Salary: Circa £20,100 per annum pro rata
Working Pattern: Fixed Term Contract | Full Time | Flexible First options available
What is the role?
Working as part of our CAD team, we have opportunities for students to support projects across our Transmission business. We're at the forefront of some really high-profile projects which are ensuring our transmission network is structurally sound, operating safely and efficiently and providing sustainable and reliable energy to all.

Our CAD team supports multi-disciplinary teams across the Transmission business. During your placement you will use your Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit software skills and BIM collaboration knowledge to support substation projects in the North of Scotland. Tasks will vary from creating & modifying 2D & 3D models, draughting drawings for planning and tender purposes, to supporting ongoing development of our internal digital collaboration practices. This is a very exciting time for our CAD team as we continue to grow our in-house capabilities to meet ambitious goals for the business.
Our Transmission Engineering summer placements provides real hands-on experience through a 12 week placement in one of our engineering based teams. Throughout the placement, you will have the support of a business mentor and buddy, who will provide guidance and support to enable you to reach your full potential.
Our summer placement students work collaboratively in a variety of contexts, while also taking ownership of their role by working under their own direction to drive action forward. There will also be networking and presentation opportunities, specialist sessions and support from our graduates.
What do I need?
We have opportunities for those studying degrees inclusive of Computer Aided Draughting & Design/ Computer Aided Architectural Design & Technology/BIM
We'd love you to show your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us.
