C. elegans Research Scientist
We are recruiting a driven and passionate C. elegans Research Scientist keen to use their research knowledge in a commercial setting. The role will focus on designing novel studies, developing new methods, investigating the scientific literature and interpreting data to provide fit-for-purpose solutions for our clients.

Magnitude Biosciences Ltd is a specialist contract research organisation delivering C. elegans solutions to the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and ingredients industries. We are a team of multidisciplinary experts who combine our C. elegans expertise, unique automated assays, and novel patented healthspan imaging system (WormGazer™) to provide bespoke solutions for our clients.
Our novel WormGazer™ imaging technology continuously monitors worm movement automatically, providing data on growth and development, healthspan and quantifiable data in behavioural assays. Our assays are designed to deliver solutions for understanding mode of action for compounds and other interventions, understanding toxicity, supporting drug discovery in biotech and testing novel food ingredients for potential health benefits.

About the Role
The post holder will report to our Chief Scientific Officer and will support our sales and delivery teams. Appropriate training will be provided.
- Draft novel study designs for client proposals and advise on bespoke project feasibility
- Conduct detailed literature reviews to investigate client R&D problems to provide bespoke solution specific to client needs
- Advise on relevant, current and up to date research and laboratory techniques
- Drive technical problem solving in the laboratory and during client projects
- Be responsible for data interpretation, reporting and presentation writing
- Provide subject matter expert guidance in-house and in client calls
- Lead in house projects to develop and validate new assays driven by customer need
- Assist in the laboratory with experiments when required
Essential Criteria
● A PhD or equivalent
● At least 3 years’ experience working with C. elegans in a research lab.
● In depth knowledge of C. elegansliterature
● Broad knowledge of biosciences/biomedical sciences
● Ability to design new experiments to address scientific questions
● Excellent problem-solving skills
● Strong communicator both verbally and in writing
● Willingness to adapt and learn to work in a commercial setting
● Ability to work in a team
● Ability to be flexible and adaptable to a variety of business challenges
● Strong work ethic and commitment
Desirable criteria
● Molecular biology knowledge
● Experience making transgenic C. elegans
● Experience in the research fields of ageing, neurodegeneration, microbiome or toxicity
● Knowledge of assay development and validation
● Any commercial experience

A shortlist of applicants will first be interviewed by Zoom. Candidates that impress at this stage will be invited to visit the lab for a face-to-face interview.
Hours: 35 per week
The salary will be appropriate for the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
