About the role
As a Butchery Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations of a meat processing facility or butcher shop. You will be responsible for managing a team of butchers and ensuring that the products meet the quality standards and are delivered on time to customers. You will also be responsible for inventory management, sales forecasting, and creating an environment that ensures the safety of the staff and customers. The role may require working early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
Responsibilities will include:
- Manage a team of butchers and support staff to ensure that products are prepared according to customer demand and quality standards.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for butchery operations, including processing, packaging, and shipping.
- Manage inventory levels of raw materials and finished products to ensure that production needs are met while minimizing waste.
- Create and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure a steady supply of high-quality raw materials at competitive prices.
- Develop and implement sales strategies to increase revenue and market share.
- Train and mentor staff to ensure that they are competent and efficient in their job roles.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and health regulations.
- Monitor financial performance and prepare budgets and reports as required.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure that products are delivered on time and to customer satisfaction.
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a managerial role in food production
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with safety and health regulations governing meat processing
- Preferable knowledge of meat processing techniques and butchery practices.
- Familiarity of working in a fast-paced environment, often standing for extended periods of time
- Experience of handling raw meat products, wearing protective clothing and adhering to strict hygiene practices.
- Experience of working in cold environments and lifting heavy objects.
