THE ROLE:
As the Root Cellar grows, we add an experienced full-time Meat Manager to our Oxford Corner team. Our meat market is focused on local, sustainable, top-quality meats free of fillers, antibiotics, and hormones. Our butchers are experts at their craft and continuously push our boundaries for innovative ways to cut, process, and display our products.
As our Meat Manager, you’ll be as enthusiastic about good food and good people as we are. You’ll lead by example, hiring, coaching, training, and empowering our meat department crew to build a compelling, happy, and cohesive team. You share our eye for detail, our focus on continuous improvement, and our uncompromising commitment to quality, and you’re excited to put our values to work, collaborating with the rest of our management team to set and surpass KPIs.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Create a coaching and development culture for all staff, which embraces a passion for food.
- Demonstrate outstanding leadership and a passion for motivating and developing an effective team.
- Ensure the department achieves all financial targets and maximizes sales and margins, including appropriate sales forecasting and labour cost control.
- Manage displays to ensure limited product loss and that all product on the sales floor meets company standards for quality and freshness.
- Maintain product quality, product loss, and department man hours vs. sales to the company standards.
- Lead the implementation of company policies and procedures, including Health & Safety, Food Safety and loss prevention.
- Coach, train and motivate Team Members to maintain the highest level of productivity.
- Merchandise, manage inventory and schedule to meet financial objectives.
- Handle all customer concerns and complaints effectively and positively, ensuring beneficial results.
- Effectively respond to challenging situations in a positive and professional manner providing solutions and proposing new ideas.
- Be a role model and inspire behaviour consistent with our values.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE COMES EQUIPPED WITH:
- 3+ years of meat-cutting experience.
- 2+ years of management experience in a related role.
- Experience in sausage-making and creating recipes for in-house specialty products.
- Strong business sense + proven track record of positive results.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

This is a full-time position commencing promptly.
