Context:
M&G have created a business segment, with responsibility for managing the Heritage business of the group. This relates to the closed back book of life insurance products, with AUM of c.100bn and c.5m policies. The Heritage Finance team partners with the leadership team of the Heritage business, and help achieve commercial objectives.
A key objective of the team will be to ensure all necessary reporting is identified and produced, that the Heritage leadership team understand the financial plans and actions expected of them to deliver this, and subsequently to support and challenge in the delivery of these plans. This will include the establishment of a Life Insurance operating model that delivers on the Heritage unit cost targets by 2026.
This role will business partner the Customer Operations, Planning and Performance and Change teams within the Heritage structure, reporting into the Heritage CFO.
Purpose:
- This role will mainly liaise with Senior Leaders that are at Excom-2 level across the Heritage business.
- Reporting and providing insight on financial performance of the Customer Operations, Planning and Performance and Change teams
- Forecasting current period outturns and developing multi-year budgets and underpinning plans and initiatives to deliver those
- Developing business cases for change initiatives of c£10-100m within the relevant business area
- Providing commercial analysis in support of the business aims, and to inform management decisions
- Attending the leadership meetings of the Customer Ops, Planning and Performance and Change teams
- Take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls to support improvement of the overall control environment, customer outcomes and a reduction in M&G plcs operational risk
Business partners are not responsible for the operational expense accounting and accrual processes but will liaise closely with these teams to understand what has been accounted for and to provide advice on material items which should be provided for.
Knowledge / Experience:
- Experience of building effective relationships as “trusted advisor” to the business
- Commercial mind-set and demonstrated track record of challenging and driving improved performance
- Experience of supporting a substantial function through transformational change
- Track record of expense management within a complex financial services business
- Knowledge of the Heritage / life insurance business is desirable

Qualifications: Relevant professional qualification (Accountant within financial services) with post qualification experience
