Main Purpose of Job


Working for the Business Development Director as part of the Central Sales Team, you will be responsible for improving and growing business, by establishing and developing relationships with customers, suppliers and other partners.

As a National Business Development Manager, you'll identify new business opportunities in order to generate revenue and help the business grow with a focus on driving accommodation (transient and groups) revenue streams together with meetings and events business. You will also be fully conversant with V Works and sell this at a national level.

  • Achieve activity KPIs as set quarterly.

  • Achieve personal revenue target


Business Development

Focussing on defined industry sectors or locations, you will:

  • Research and identify new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers and partnerships

  • Identify new ways of reaching existing markets and propose benefit v cost

  • Generate leads through seeking out appropriate contacts in an organisation

  • Meet with customers/clients face to face or over the phone to share the benefits of using Village

  • Foster and develop relationships with customers/clients

  • Understand the needs of your customers and be able to respond effectively with a plan of how to meet these

  • Think strategically - seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business

  • Work closely with the central Groups and Business Desks on lead generation and maximising revenue growth

  • To attend networking events, gathering leads and business opportunities whilst representing Village in a professional manner at all times

Account Management


  • Proactively manage a portfolio of defined accounts to protect, maintain and grow their revenue.

  • To strategically manage the various offices, departments and key influencers and decision makers within your account portfolio.

  • Regularly review performance of any contracted accounts in the brand delivered by your account portfolio to ensure that they are meeting agreed production to maintain their preferred rate and if not, put into place activity to drive agreed revenue be that room or meeting rooms related.

  • To be responsible for the timely completion and follow up of rate solicitation and tenders, working closely with the RFP co-ordinator on accurate submissions.

  • Create memorable and informative presentations and familiarisation events that improve customer knowledge on the brand.

Commercial


  • To write engaging proposals that deliver business wins and profitable commercial relationships with clients

  • To cross sell the Village portfolio to maximise business opportunities

  • To work within the defined commercial rate strategy and to refer to the revenue team on specific or complex commercial decisions.

  • To promote and sell all non bedroom and meeting room areas of the hotels to your customers.

  • To deputise for the Business Development Director in their absence

  • To be fully aware of revenue stream performance and your contribution to that - Groups, Corporate Transient, M&E and V Works


Property Support

From time to time you may be required to support specific hotels as follows:

  • To support new hotel openings in Village through the identification and conversion of business opportunities

  • To complete targeted sales activity for need hotels to aid recovery

  • To follow up and report back any sales leads that are passed onto you.


Operational Sales Support

You may be required to assist with the following during periods of high demand:

  • Enquiry handling, proposal and contract creation

  • Rooming list management

  • Client liaison and query management

General

  • To fully understand Village objectives and initiatives.

  • To submit a weekly sales report outlining your key revenue and activity successes along with a consolidated monthly communication on past and future months activity that tie in with your sales activity plan.

  • To assist with the preparation of reports.

  • To take part in any training and development activities as recommended.

  • Train, coach and develop team members to enhance their performance to meet the current and future needs of the brands.

  • To assist with induction and training of new sales starters across the brands as appropriate.

  • To actively promote the Company in a professional manner both internally and externally, including attendance of client events.

  • To attend internal meetings and represent Sales where appropriate.

  • To act as an Ambassador for the Village brand at all times and to ensure Group values are upheld to both external and internal contacts, through appropriate behaviour and performance.

  • To represent the Group at in-house and external exhibitions, trade shows, and presentations and similarly to any professional bodies and organisations.

  • To pro-actively contribute to the Group sales activity plan(s) which accurately interprets the objectives of the business.

  • To work closely with colleagues in Central Sales, Central Meetings/ Groups Desk and On Property Sales teams to promote good working relationships and aid business conversion.

  • To meet and exceed client expectations in terms of support, quality and service and to communicate identified client needs effectively.

  • To be fully aware of and understand changing market trends and to focus self and team activity to support the achievement of the Group Sales Strategy and meet defined business needs.

  • To ensure that Account and Contact Management within Village systems (IVvy)is fulfilled to the agreed standards to support measurement of sales activity, Management and Client Information and business analysis.

  • To use the brand standard sales toolkit

  • To gain knowledge on competitors and implement learning to ensure Village retains sustainable competitive advantage.

  • To comply with Company and statutory procedures relating to fire, hygiene, health and safety.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Strong sales skills – demonstrates confidence and ability when communicating and is effective in converting prospects to delivered revenue.

  • Track record of achievement – at least 5 years experience in hospitality, brand led or customer facing proactive sales environment.

  • Target driven without loss of sales integrity.

  • Excellent knowledge of the Transient, Groups, Meetings and Events market segments. Co-working knowledge would be a benefit.

  • Highly motivated self-starter with a ‘can-do’ approach, combined with a strong customer service ethic and creative problem solving style.

  • Commercially aware – sees how the sales contribution aligns with hotel and brand plans and actively seeks out ways to drive revenue.

  • Effective communicator – orally and in writing across varying levels of seniority, with natural rapport building skills.

  • Tenacious and creative in pursuing results. Passionate, energetic & can deliver at pace.

  • Comfortable working under own initiative with limited supervision & as part of a team.

  • Working knowledge of StaynTouch and Ivvy preferred

  • Ability to assimilate information quickly and effectively plan.

  • Quick thinking and flexible in approach.

  • A positive, team focused personality, resilient, calm and not easily ‘phased’.

  • Welcomes change.
