Based at our Goodman Steel Reading site, we currently have a key sales opportunity available for a driven, passionate Business Development Manager to continue to build and develop an already strong portfolio of customers, building long term mutually beneficial relationships.


Specific tasks include:

  • Personally, lead negotiations with existing and potential customers and through regular meetings, build relationships to maximise commercial opportunities with them.
  • Manage the end-to-end Sales process for clients from engagement to sale, to delivery.
  • Ensuring that effective systems of control and information exist, routinely monitor sales performance against plan in order to maximise profit potential
  • Develop robust sales plans, within the constraints of operational capacity, that seek to secure profitable new market share and gross margin growth through a combination of new business and new product sales through lowest cost to serve.
  • Ensure sales plans reflect the need to minimise stock levels, work in progress and customer debtor days in order control unnecessary investment in working capital.
  • Develop, publicise, and apply a business commercial operating policy, informed as appropriate by the Group, within limits of their authority on pricing, credit etc. and monitor customer service standards that seek to build customer retention levels.
  • Be mobile in the field visiting customers face to face.

Essential Skills for the role:

  • Previous business development/ senior sales experience within a B2B sales environment
  • Ideally you will already have achieved success within the steel industry and are looking to build on this
  • A proven record of building up accounts and delivering profitable results
  • Builds strong relationships quickly, has a proactive attitude & approach.
  • Confident in achieving targets and KPI’s
  • Can drive & has a full UK driving licence
