Business Analyst (Digital)
We have a new role for Business Analyst (Digital) at University Hospital Southampton (SO16 6YD) within Digital Programme Management department, immediately start and will be for 4-6 months.
Mon – Fri
37.5 hours per week
This is a Band 6 , the pay rate is starting from £18.1 - £21.8 an hour.
This post holder has a key role to support the delivery of digital projects as part of the achievement of the UHS Digital Strategy. This role will focus on defining user needs at the start of new projects, supporting the development of these solutions to ensure that they meet the needs of the end user.
- Work with clinical, admin and technical teams (plus patient groups) to identify the needs of end users of hospital digital services
- Identify and develop current “as its” and future “to be” business processes
- Define user needs (internal development) and system specifications (external procurement) for new digital services
- Coordinate user acceptance testing to ensure that digital solutions meet the business / user need
Duties:
The role holder will support the delivery of new digital services across UHS and will be responsible for:
- Business Modelling. Develop models of current (“as is”) and future (“to be”) processes across the hospital to support development of digital services. Analysing and formalising the business requirements in sufficient detail so that digital teams have a full understanding of the scope of requirements, enabling system design to be undertaken.
- User needs. Working across different departments within the hospital (clinical, administrative, technical and patients) to identify and develop user needs for digital services. Ensure that user needs shape the scope of digital projects at the feasibility / business case stage. These user needs will be in the form of user stories, functional and non-functional requirements feeding both internal development projects (user stories) and external system procurement projects (user / system requirements).
- Business process testing. Develop user acceptance testing cases to validate proposed digital solutions against future business processes and user needs. Coordinate cross functional user groups to support this user acceptance testing.
- Digital / business architecture. Use an understanding of the business and technical architectures to guide the development of new digital solutions. Aligning project and programme digital solution options with business and technical architectures. E.g. support digital delivery teams to identify solutions that would meet the existing care group structures or explaining to user groups the limitations of potential digital solutions within the current architectures.
- Stakeholder relationship management. Facilitate the identification of user needs and business process through workshops, interviews, reviews. Manage a wide variety of stakeholder relationships and bridge the gap between end users and digital delivery teams. Act as a focal point for project stakeholders and provide support to the project processes by ensuring effective liaison between digital teams and end users.
- Digital Delivery. Contribute to the delivery of digital projects through participation in agile and waterfall project delivery teams.
- User Research. Plan, design and carry out research activities with users that help digital delivery teams get a deep understanding of the user needs. This research will informs policy, proposition, service, content and interaction design so that services work well for users and achieves the Trust’s digital strategy.

- To ensure meetings and change activities (workflows, user stories) are effectively documented for reference, decision making and tracking
- The post holder may occasionally be asked to carry out other duties consistent with grade and experience.
- Undertake out of hours working as required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
- Proven experience as a Business Analyst or similar role
- Development of written digital / IT system specifications, including data structures and workflows
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets
- Proficient in using analytics tools such as Excel, SQL, and Tableau
- Familiarity with process mapping software such as Visio
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
