The role reports into a Senior Business Analyst. The Business Analysis team works alongside Solution Architects, Project Managers, Service Owners and customers to meet the strategic and near-term objectives of our customer groups.

We support the learning and teaching, research, administrative and commercial activities of the University. We therefore work across a very wide-ranging portfolio to deliver excellent service to customers including students, administrative staff, academics and external stakeholders.

In this role, you will apply business analysis techniques to understand the problems to be solved, producing Impact Assessments, as-is and to-be Process Maps and Gap Analyses, Requirements Catalogues (including as a framework for testing), Options Appraisals and Outline Business Cases, advising customers with solution selection and implementation. You will use creativity and imagination to identify opportunities to improve and innovate, and build a broad understanding of University-wide initiatives to make connections and find synergies. You will connect with people at all levels and build rewarding, positive relationships. Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

We’re looking for someone who is ready to make a truly impactful contribution to a critical team during a transformational time at Warwick. The Business and Process Analysis team works alongside Enterprise Architects, Project Managers, Service Owners and customers to meet the strategic and near-term objectives of our customer groups.

This is a post for experienced and ambitious Business Analyst. This is for a one year fixed term contract, with possibility of other contract length/types also becoming available. There is variety, a great working environment, and an opportunity to shape a new team and contribute significantly to the University.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


1) Develop a deep understanding of customer processes, strategies, priorities and constraints. Identify opportunities for process and performance improvement using business and process analysis techniques. Work with customers to inform digital strategies and standards. Drive and challenge customers’ assumptions about the way they will successfully introduce new business processes and solutions and contribute to robust process change, solution selection and implementation.

2) Apply previous experience of software development, to ensure that customers receive informed advice regarding the effective use of IT to achieve their goals, and manage the relationship with colleagues who provide technical and project management support for service delivery.

3) Initiate and contribute to the ongoing development of technical documents for systems requirements, support models, etc. Produce process documents including: process maps and analyses, metrics design and performance management.

4) Work independently with a diverse group of staff from both business and technical areas, and external suppliers creating opportunities to listen to customers and understand their needs, building relationships across the University. Work with the customer to determine the root cause of issues to identify the underlying true requirements and distinguish these from user requests. Attend formal University structures (faculty and department IT committees) and service reviews.

5) Play a leading role to analyse, document, propose and recommend solutions for customer areas.
  • Work with the project sponsor to develop accurate, meaningful and measurable business cases.
  • Draw on previous analysis experience and use a variety of business analysis methods (e.g. interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, business process analysis, use cases, task, workflow analysis and facilitation) to elicit requirements and document business processes.
  • Critically evaluate the requirements gathered from various sources and, where necessary, reconcile any conflicts.
  • Prepare and present the business case, requirements and solution options at the levels appropriate to different audiences and for different deliverables, deconstructing high level.
  • Information into details and abstracting up from low level information to a general understanding as needed.
  • Deliver the relevant documentation as required, including functional specification; business requirements specification; detailed requirements specification; use cases and process documentation.
  • Lead in the production of IT requirements documentation and supervise less senior analysts for formal procurement procedures.
  • Identify and appraise solution options, carrying out options and gap analysis, to inform recommendations for implementation.

6) In the context of allocated project work, use expertise to act as liaison between the business and project teams, technology suppliers, technical and support teams to ensure the solution meets user requirements and that issues are identified and addressed as early as possible.

7) Develop proposals for service improvements and new solutions with Service Owners for technical and nontechnical audiences including the development of technical documents based on the UML framework (use cases, test cases, activity diagrams), BPMN notation framework and Lean Six Sigma skills (or equivalent).

8) Liaise as appropriate with all those within ITS responsible for delivering relevant services. Building good relationships with all internal teams working to support and develop new services is a crucial part of the role. In addition, where appropriate, and in conjunction with the relevant Service Owner, manage the performance of key external suppliers.

9) Contribute to the strategic development of ITS plans as an advocate for new and enhanced services.
