Responsible for: Your role as the Charity Retail Driver is to be the face of our organisation within our local communities as you collect donated goods and transport them safely to our shops and distribution centre in our branded vehicle.
About us: The Hull and East Riding Branch is a local, independent charity working in partnership with the RSPCA. Our rescue centre operating costs are ½ million pounds per year, raised locally to deliver our promise, to rescue, rehabilitate animals from cruelty and neglect and provide them with a better future.
About you: As our Van Driver you will be fundamental to the success of our team and our mission; you must have a passion for animal welfare with a customer first outlook. You will actively increase the charity’s income through retail
You will be responsible for:
o Transferring donated goods between our distribution centre and charity shops.
o Picking up donated good as directed by the shop managers from donor’s homes.
o To ensure the van is always in a clean and usable condition.
o To be responsible for the vehicles daily checks.
o You will be a fully trained portable appliance tester (PAT) and ensure all electrical items are tested and safe for re-sale.
o You will be required to perform any other reasonable task as requested by the Distribution Centre Manager in order to meet the operational needs of the retail team.
o Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including Health and Safety and manual handling standards
o To undertake appropriate training as directed by your line manager.
o Keep up to date with the RSPCA’s wider activity, engaging and supporting fundraising events.
The centre handles on average 70,000 kgs of recyclable donations per year, so you will require a level of fitness. During the course of your duties, you will be expected to undertake bending, lifting, and stretching for example when sorting and transporting stock
Person Profile
Essential Experience
o Driving and operating a large vehicle up to 3.5 tons
o Experience of multi load drops.
o Experience in a highly communicative role
Desirable Experience
o Working in the Charity Sector
o Working with volunteers
o Portable appliance testing (PAT) to ensure all electrical items are safe for re-sale.
o RoSPA driving certificate or equivalent
Skills and Abilities
o Driving a vehicle sympathetic to the vehicle and the environment
o Ability to prioritise workload.
o Full Driving licence with less than 3 endorsements
o You may occasionally be required to work in the distribution centre if cover is needed due to absence.
o You will be required to perform any other reasonable task as requested by the Distribution Centre Manager in order to meet the operational needs of the retail team.
o Great communication skills with the ability to deal with external partners in a professional manner both by email and telephone.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 21 per week
Salary: £10.42 per hour
