Building Facade Safety Investigation Surveyor


Location

This position will mainly be based in (and around) London, however will require national (and at times international) travel from time to time, so it is essential that the successful incumbent is available and willing to accommodate this.

Purpose of the position:

Ark Sustainability, a child company of Ark Workplace Risk, is looking to recruit specialist Building Safety and Investigation Surveyor of the highest calibre committed to delivering technically robust, pragmatic and commercially sound investigations of external facades and fire protection.

We operate across various sectors, offering a range of services including external façade, fire stopping, balcony inspections and assurance services.

As a Building Safety and Investigation Surveyor at Ark Sustainability Ltd, you will be responsible for working with a diverse range of clients, providing specialist surveying investigations within the built environment considering the external facades and fire protection of new and existing buildings.


Qualification requirements:

Desired qualifications

  • Surveying Degree Qualified; and

  • Membership of The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and/or

  • Membership of Institution of Fire Engineers (IFireE), and /or

  • Membership of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE)


Skills & Experience:

  • Surveying properties (residential and commercial) for the purpose of compliance with approved guidance and health and safety statutory requirements. In the capacity ofa surveyor / engineer or in the capacity of a building control officer.

  • 3-5 years or more experience of working on complex buildings, including residential buildings for fire safety and life safety fabric and facade, cavity barriers, integrity between structures, fixed materials to facades or fabric of the building.

  • Excellent understanding of MHCLG guidelines regarding external facades along with the Building Regulations.

  • An interest in and the ability to understand and interpret building regulations, construction processes, legislation and requirements.

  • Is physically fit and capable of working at height off MEWPs and BMU’setc in all weathers

  • Strong work ethic, creative problem solving and interpersonal skills, research and report writing abilities and good knowledge of the regulations.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and business prioritisation with ease.

  • Communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Relationship-building skills.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Also: a full driving licence is required, due to the need to travel to sites.

Key accountabilities:

  • Investigation of external facades and fabric solutions, construction methodologies and alteration outcomes.

  • The identification of the specific façade arrangements and the associated cladding systems installed along with the associated construction of the external facades of a building - determined by intrusive investigations based upon agreed method statements etc. including the use of core sampling and the use of endoscope and borescope systems.

  • Determining if any "substitution" of façade arrangement / cladding system / fabric construction materials has taken place;

  • Identification or not of the suitability of such façade arrangement / cavity barrier systems / cladding system / fabric construction arrangements - in line with the advice notes and guidance issued by the MHCLG including the provision of advice where appropriate in respect of necessary investigations and actions necessary to identify such façade arrangement / cladding system / fabric constructions;

  • Support and assistance in developing investigation and remediation strategies across client’s portfolios; looking to take a more holistic/risk-based approach.
