Broadcast Engineer
Division: Global Toronto
Work Status: Full Time
Location: Kingston, Ontario (100% on-site)
About the Role
Global Kingston has an opening for a full-time Broadcast Engineer in the News Technology department. This position will report to the Chief Engineer, Kingston.
The following highlights the primary functions, but does not outline all of the duties and responsibilities which may be assigned to this position.
You will contribute by:
- Install, troubleshoot and maintain a variety of broadcast systems, facilities and equipment, including mechanical equipment.
- Emergency and routine maintenance on a wide variety of studio and newsroom broadcast equipment which supports Television News Operations and Radio.
- Field service support for Television and Radio Transmitter sites.
- Ensure the quality and timelines of projects assigned.
- Ensure that the Chief Engineer is informed of current and projected status of all projects and work tasks you have been assigned.
- Implement and document all temporary or permanent installations which meet the needs of operations or technical requirements.
- Make equipment purchasing and system design recommendations.
- Provide Business / Broadcast IT / Network systems support.
- Work closely with News and Radio Operations to maintain high quality and consistent product.
- Support operational staff.
- Represent Corus in a positive manner.
- Perform other duties as required to the above.
- Graduate of a recognized post-secondary Broadcast Technologist or Electronics Program.
- Passionate about working in the Broadcasting, Electronics or IT technical industry.
- Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot various electronic and IT systems.
- An understanding of digital video/audio signals and their integration into Broadcast Systems.
- Working experience with server/file based work flow technology is a requirement.
- Knowledge of hardware systems and ability to assemble, configure or service any computer workstation or server.
- Strong computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Windows 10/Server 2003/2008 platforms, Microsoft networking and Broadcast IP Technology.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on IP broadcast television experience.
- General knowledge of Live News Television and Radio production.
- Familiarity with Over the Air transmission for Television and Radio.
- Working knowledge with any or all of the following systems and equipment:
- audio consoles, multi-viewer display systems, digital newsroom systems, video routing switchers, studio cameras, tally control systems, control room automation systems, graphics systems, intercom systems, production switchers, ENG field cameras, studio camera robotics systems, On Air weather systems, fiber transport systems, digital microwave systems, Newsroom editorial systems. Television and Radio OTA transmitters.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a passion for building and maintaining working relationships.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology, workflows and integrating systems.
- Excellent Visio skills for CAD drawings of Broadcast systems.
- Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Office.
- Additional training or certification in IP systems and network environments are considered an asset.
- Must be a strong team player who is eager to embrace innovative new technologies, is self-motivated and has the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
