Quality & Compliance Manager - Plymouth
About us - West Design Products is an industry leading, family-owned manufacturer, distributor, wholesaler and innovator of quality art, craft, stationery, toy, and education products. We exclusively supply the trade, supporting our customers with a team of field and office-based Account Managers.
We operate out of three sites, with our HQ and distribution centre in Kent, our creative design hub in Dorset and our UK manufacturing site in Devon. We’re proud to serve the UK, European and Global markets, working with over 20,000 products at any given time.
About the role - Provide support, analysis objectives and measures for a global product range in the arts, crafts, stationery and toy sectors. Ensure the compliance of products with national and international regulations and directives. To support the businesses implementation and understanding of new regulations.
Key Responsibilities/ Duties:
- Ensure all products comply with the relevant regulations & directives.
- Create, manage & maintain a central technical system which offers easy access, support & information of the product both for internal & external use instantly.
- Keep up to date with changes, regulations & directives that will impact the company & the sale of products through research, courses & attending seminars.
- Raise awareness of recent changes, within the industry. Create Power-point presentations, training, support & assistance to help colleagues better understand what a product and company must achieve to meet compliance, consumer confidence and what these benefits are to us and our customers.
- Check supplier’s performance (Sending of samples, test reports, data sheets, lead-times, communication).
- Offer support to our supply chain by sending changes/updates on various regulations & directives when applicable, as well as developing a good working relationship.
- Work closely with the 3rd party auditors and any corrective actions dealt with and liaised to all applicable party.
- Liaise directly with testing laboratories and arranging appropriate tests.
- Devise and establishing West Design’s quality procedures, standards, and specifications.
- Ensure correct and compliant labelling is on all products.
- Work closely with Purchasing to establish quality requirements from external suppliers are met.
- Liaise closely with the applicable account manager of key customers to ensure that both they and the customer understand all expectations in terms of quality, design, manufacturing, testing and therefore potentially the costing implications.
- Work closely with our Group Sourcing Manager (based in our Dorset office).
- Work alongside our Export team to assist with any queries.
Essential Skills:
- Excellent communication skills verbal and written.
- A good understanding and currently developing knowledge within Ethical standards, Chemical risks assessments and Safety data sheets, Declarations, Technical file creation.
- Experience within Product testing, product safety and auditing.
- Ability to interpretate complex subject matters and build workable solutions for the business to follow.
- Good understanding of FSC, PEFC, SEDEX systems.
- A focus on developing self to gain expert awareness on key quality related subjects.
- Confident in working with internal and external customers to deliver shared goals.
- To be able to work to deadlines and manage conflicting priorities and work streams.
- Tenacious attitude towards raising the bar on all compliancy related matters.
- A good grounding with the ISO standards would be beneficial.
- The Quality Manager should have previous experience within a Quality profession within a manufacturing.
- Quality control processes supported across the shop floor to ensure the correct outputs.
