So, what are we looking for?

Bridgewater Canal Company are owners and operator of a busy inland waterway, used mainly for recreational purposes and we have a new opportunity for a new Maintenance worker to join our Bridgewater canal team.

The main duty of the role is to carry out routine maintenance tasks along the length of the canal as part of our direct labour force. This will include working with contract labour as required and may also include work on other projects within the Peel group of companies.

To be successful in this role, you will need to hold the below, essential skills/ experience:

· Driving Licence.

· Teamwork.

· Ability to follow instruction.

· Good knowledge of building and construction methods.

· Good communication skills.

· Basic IT skills – Word – Excel - e-mail.

· Problem solving skills.

· Good attention to detail.

· Ability to work under pressure.

· Time management

· Ability to read technical manuals and drawings.

· Experience using hand and power tools.

What will you be doing?

Day to day, you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance duties, such as canal wall and towpath repairs and assisting with the operation of floating craft and plant (for which training will be provided).

You will also

· Assist with control of water levels within the canal via operation of sluices and overflows.

· Carry out routine vegetation control throughout the canal, such as grass cutting and tree cleaning

· Assist with dredging operations within the canal using in – house floating craft

· Carry out canal inspections- and report faults in a timely manner

· To assist with re-floating sunken boats

· Assisting the enforcement team when required

· Required to work out of hours and be on call
