Job description

Founded in 1876 with our Head Office in Bedford, Wells & Co are a family owned business that is proud of its heritage but more excited about our future. We are expanding our pub company business, both in the UK and France and more excitingly have a new build state of the art craft brewery.

We are now recruiting for a Brewery Engineer, to plan and execute maintenance on all production equipment and utilities & services. This is a sole role split 50/50 between preventative/reactive maintenance on the production floor and compliance/regulatory work in control room.


Monday to Friday - no shifts !!!

The Role:


  • Ensures the integrity and reliability of plant by building, implementing and effectively administering maintenance & reliability systems for all production equipment, in conjunction with the manufacturing maintenance module in the Navision ERP.
  • Maintains cost effective services and utilities supply, and reports on use of power, gas, water and trade waste.
  • Ensures the brewery complies with relevant legislation and regulations by maintaining knowledge of legal requirements, eg. PSSR and LOLER, and ensuring all surveys and fees are completed and paid on time, eg. effluent and borehole.
  • Ensures capital projects are completed safely, on time and within budget by co-ordinating and planning of work including contractor management, together with Head of Production.
  • Ensures the Brewery operates within company H&S standards through continued education and obtaining the co-operation and commitment of all staff, and manages contractors and PTW system.
  • SALSA maintenance module requirements implemented and maintained, including ‘shopfloor’ interaction with operators and CCP checks & validation
  • Ensure safety, housekeeping and quality standards and procedures are maintained at all times.
  • Motivate the entire brewery team to continually improve safety, quality and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement a brewery maintenance strategy and Nav Maintenance module. Including, but not limited to, work order system, monthly reporting, equipment logs, critical equipment assessments, spare parts management, scheduling with production for planned and unplanned downtime, annual plan for overhauls and regulatory checks.
  • Support and physically run the packaging lines as and when required, primarily on the combined small pack line (bottles and cans).
  • Ensure Brewpoint comply with all government regulations required in food production facilities for equipment, eg. PSSR, LOLER, PUWER, Legionella risk assessment, Ammonia Release Response Plan, effluent release limits.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities. This role is expected to put forward ideas to improve safety and food safety systems, product quality, brewery processes, and utility usage.
  • Control finances in engineering and maintenance through managing supplier contracts, setting budgets and regular financial reviews.
  • Maintenance budget and service/ maintenance contracts controlled

What we are looking for:

A qualified artisan, demonstrating both a mechanical and electrical skill-set
Experience in a FMCG packaging environment is highly desirable
Experience in developing and implementing maintenance systems
A flexible and hands-on approach! You will be required to work shifts and working hours will change subject to schedules and production issues
A drive for continuous improvement and ability to drive change
Proven planning and scheduling skills with a natural flair for problem solving
A confident communication style, as you will be liaising with various stakeholders daily
