Job description
Up to £38,000 (Full Time Equivalent)
About us:
The Doctors Laboratory (TDL) is the largest and most successful independent pathology organisation in the UK.
Our purpose is to deliver medically-led diagnostics, innovation, value and long-term investment to healthcare. With our core laboratory based at The Halo Building in London, we also have an expanding site in Manchester as well as smaller hospital based laboratories across the country. We maintain rigorously high standards of quality, whilst also delivering efficiencies to healthcare through careful workforce planning, pioneering technology and significant investment in infrastructure and IT.
About the role:
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Pathology Team at Circle Mt Alvernia (Guilford) in a part time role.
This is a small but strategically located laboratory within the Circle Healthcare Group of hospitals.
The laboratory has the benefit of a multi-discipline repertoire in a moderately paced environment, which would appeal to specialist staff in one discipline looking to expand their knowledge base in a laboratory with time to do so.
Laboratory hours are between weekdays 8.00am to 6pm on rotation, with some flexibility around the part time hours (30) to be worked. Additional hours may be available where annual leave or external projects need coverage.
This offers a good work/life balance for staff.
The successful candidate will participate in the routine processing of all pathology (Haematology, Biochemistry) specimens and issue of blood components with the other BMS and MLA staff to ensure a smooth workflow, and ensure that for each sample the appropriate requested investigations are performed in a timely manner and to ensure that specialised and urgent specimens are appropriately dealt with.
The onsite repertoire is looking to expand in the future.
It is desirable for the successful candidate to have suitable experience in either haematology or chemistry to the level of QC review and authorisation of results.
The role offers opportunity to develop additional quality control/assurance skills and responsibilities, health and safety practices, and various other internal and external training avenues.
Being part of the TDL regional labs group, staff are supported by and contribute to the other TDL regional labs functions in sharing input into troubleshooting, training, peer auditing, presenting training sessions and supporting company projects.
Biochemistry instrumentation is Roche; Haematology and Coagulation is Sysmex; LIMS system is Winpath.
At TDL we offer a variety of excellent staff benefits including:
- Training and development opportunities – including the funding of Undergraduate and Masters Degrees and Specialist Portfolios for Biomedical Scientists.
**• No banding restrictions: **As we are a private company we are not restricted by salary bandings and so are able to negotiate appropriate salaries based on experience. This also means that annual salary reviews do not hit a band ceiling.
- Discounted gym membership
- Cash healthcare plan – cash back on a variety of healthcare costs including dentist and opticians.
- Annual performance related salary review
- Competitive annual leave allowance
- Flexible working hours: 37.5 hours standard working week
Please read the job description and person specification carefully and ensure that your application reflects the knowledge, skills and experience required.
We respect and value the diversity of our staff and welcome applications from diverse communities.
