Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust now has an opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist in the haematology and transfusion department.
Our diagnostic services are on two sites, with our main automated laboratory and specialist assays based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke and our essential service laboratory at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester. In addition we support 2 community hospitals and 3 independent hospitals, providing care to over 500,000 patients. The Trust also provides treatment for complex conditions including liver cancer, colorectal cancer and is a national surgical service for a rare cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei.
This is post is for a permanent position to support the service and training in the Haematology and transfusion department.

Biomedical Scientist (Band 5/6) – candidates must be qualified to BSc level
We are committed to the training and development of our staff, and actively encourage staff to develop their careers , IBMS Certificate and Diplomas, external courses and management qualifications. The department is accredited as a training laboratory by the IBMS for both registration and specialist portfolios.

A registered Biomedical Scientist delivering Blood Sciences services which contributes to the diagnosis, treatment and clinical care of the patient.
The work involves the examination and processing of a wide range of samples submitted for diagnostic and screening purposes.
A wide range of techniques are performed to detect, identify and monitor various pathological conditions.
Biomedical Scientists will process the workload to the required standards using their skills to interpret and assess the significance of test results.
They will ensure adherence to the department policies, procedures and methods.
They will be committed to formally maintaining their skills and knowledge by appropriate training and self education, thus allowing them to apply skills to the latest techniques and complex procedures.
The post holder will be competent to work independently in all areas of the laboratory and be able to work as an autonomous practitioner .
The Hampshire Hospital Laboratories were accredited to ISO15189:2012 standards in 2014; and have maintained that accreditation to date.
