Senior Scientist – Cell Culture Development

We are currently looking to recruit a Cell Culture Development (CCD) Senior Scientist to join our well-established Development Services team. The Scientist is a key member of the laboratory team who follows agreed experimental plans and timelines to deliver high quality execution of experimental work following all safety and quality procedures. They collaborate with peers in their own team and other teams to ensure that projects proceed as planned. They will identify and implement improvements to the standard ways of working. They work with more senior scientists to plan experimental work, identify issues and identify solutions.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our development services team Lonza, and will give you exposure to working with new, novel technologies within the biotechnology field.

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform cell culture activities
  • Operation of non-standard bioreactor processes and/or cell culture automation
  • Deliver practical training
  • Input into the design of own projects
  • Responsible for the execution and delivery of own projects (safety, quality, on time, right first time) including completion of project dashboards
  • Collate and critically analyse information and drive good quality, data driven decisions on own projects
  • Operate as part of a cross-functional project team
  • Completion and peer review of laboratory documentation
  • Prepare and deliver draft presentations and reports for internal use and for Customers
  • Requirement to join the out of hours call out rota to respond to alarms on cold storage units (or cell culture systems as appropriate)

Key requirements:

  • Problem Solving: Logical and organised approach to problem solving.
  • Planning:Ability to plan and deliver using Gantt and Action log.
  • Clear and Concise Writing: Organises thoughts in a logical way that conveys the important information. Independent Learning:
  • Self-directed in learning. Developing areas of subject matter expertise.
  • Mentoring and Coaching: Able to teach others laboratory skills.
  • Communication: Able to present experiments and data clearly within department and to customers.
  • Data Organisation and Analysis: Able to design data collection plans.
  • Design of Experiments: Understand fundamentals of DOE
  • Operational Excellence: Application of Continuous Improvement tools and techniques such as 6S, visual management, mistake proofing and the 8 wastes
  • Operational Excellence: Ability to conduct basic process / data analysis (7 basic quality tools), interpret output and develop robust solutions
  • BSc in relevant scientific/technical field
  • Experience in upstream cell culture techniques such process transfer & scale up, cell line construction processes and//or process characterisation.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact and deal with internal stakeholders
