Job Introduction

The BBC Apprentice Hub is working in partnership with companies across the West Midlands to create opportunities for local talent. You will complete your apprenticeship in placements within our partner companies across the Midlands.

Placements will be with one our partner employers across the West Midlands, and you will have dedicated support from our award-winning BBC academy team. You will gain real-world experience and get paid in the process.

Main Responsibilities

We have several partners who are working with us across the Hub who are passionate about facilitating opportunities for post production apprenticeships. This will give you the chance to work with high profile partners and production companies. An apprenticeship requires commitment, self-discipline, and you will need to be self-motivated. You will also be considered for our talent pool for other opportunities within our partner companies and will benefit from mentoring, career support and development.

You will have a placement base location; however, you may rotate through different employers.

We’re looking for someone with a passion for production, who is seeking to apply their technical knowledge and understanding to post production processes and has a keen eye for detail in a technical setting. You will also be full of resilience, enthusiasm and ambition. These are all the important qualities we want to see within this apprenticeship. Within post production you may work alongside, producers, technologists and programme makers to develop your skills within the industry and make sure content is generated, delivered and stored to an industry leading standard. As a post production technical operator, you will be responsible for working with confidential material, working to specific and varied technical standards within fixed deadlines. Within the role, you could be assisting various stages in final post production, liaising with clients, assisting within the edit suites, grade and supporting the delivery of the broadcast.

No two days are the same and you must be super flexible to take on this apprenticeship. You'll study for a Level 4 qualification as a Post Production technical operator and will complete both off-the-job and on-the-job training, studying for highly specialised tailored modules such as:

  • Video Technology
  • Audio Technology
  • Metadata and timecode
  • Codecs and files
  • Edit Assistant Operations
  • Troubleshooting
  • Networks and Storage
  • Data confirming and finishing
  • Quality Control
  • Legacy technology and archive material
  • Working practices

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must:

  • Be aged 18 by March 2023
  • Maths & English GCSEs or Scottish Standards at 9-4 or A-C equivalent
  • Have the right to work in the UK and been ordinarily resident in the UK, Ireland, or the European Economic Area (EEA) for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship. Or have obtained either pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and have been ordinarily in the EEA, Gibraltar, or the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship.
  • Have a permanent base within the region.

This opportunity is only available to those that live in the following areas: Black Country, Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, and Warwickshire. If you're based outside of this area, you will not be eligible for this scheme.
