Job description
Barista
About Us
Pooky’s Deli in an independent café and deli, where customers come back time and time again because we offer a really special experience based upon exceptional customer service and equally fantastic freshly made food and drink.. We sell more coffee than anything else - our house coffee is from Dark Woods.
We are very much part of the local scene on New Road Side and the wider Horsforth community. Most of our customers are regulars and it’s vital we look after them as much as we seek to raise the profile of the deli and bring in new customers. Our staff are the most important part of our business and we have a close-knit team who work closely together to make the deli a success.
The Job
The main responsibilities will revolve around the coffee station as part of the Front of House team. Dialling in and understanding how to make adjustments to keep coffee running correctly throughout the day. Understanding how to complete orders efficiently, especially during busy times. You will also be part of ongoing improvements to the barista station, from procedures and equipment maintenance through to guest coffee choices and training. SCA accredited courses are available to support your development.
As well as making consistently excellent coffee, you will need to participate in the running of the café as we are only a small team. This will include keeping the café is well presented and clean and that customers are well looked after throughout their visit. You will also help get orders ready so that food and drinks are served promptly and at the high standard our customers expect. This may include food prep, for which you will receive plenty of training.
You must be able to understand the importance of the team dynamic from front of house and into the kitchen and communicate well with the rest of the staff.
Hours vary depending up experience, but in the region of 20-30 hours a week. The café is open from 7.30am until 4.30pm so you must be able to work shifts between these hours (plus closedown) and you must be able to work mid-week and weekends.
Pay will be at least minimum wage depending on experience.
