Are you a qualified medical photographer with AHCS registration or eligibility? We are a busy department looking for extra photographers to help with our clinics including a new Tele-dermatology clinic starting soon. You must be friendly, efficient and hardworking with the ability to prioritise your own workload. You will need to have had clinical photography experience.
The department provides a comprehensive medical photography, videography and graphics/ marketing service to the Queen Victoria Hospital; covering burns, plastics, maxillofacial, corneo-plastics, dermatology and orthodontics. You will be undertaking clinical photography across all these specialities and assisting with our large graphics and printing service.

- Undertake clinical photography in all surgical specialties (in all locations) within the Queen Victoria Hospital. Locations include medical photography studio, operating theatres, dressing clinics, minor injuries department, out patients, pre assessment, wards, maxillofacial unit, orthodontic department, corneo plastic unit and burns unit.
- Take responsibility for informing patients, relatives and/or carers of the nature and purposes of clinical photography and gaining the appropriate levels of consent.
- To reassure traumatised, anxious and self-conscious patients and undertake photography with a chaperone present where appropriate.
- Maintain a process of Continued Professional Development and keep an up to date knowledge of national/ audit standards with particular regard to clinical specialties seen at Queen Victoria Hospital.
- Co-operate with, and use initiative to direct clinical staff towards the best photographic methods/practices to achieve the optimum result.
- To ensure the service is provided according to the Trust Photographic and Video Recording Policy and regulations of the Data Protection Act 1998
- Undertake clinical photography for other health care sites according to requests.
- In particular, undertake Fluorescein Angiography, Indocyanine Green Angiography, Retinal Fundus photography and OCT examinations at trial clinics for The Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Healthcare Trust.
- Whilst undertaking these duties you are expected to be an ambassador for your profession and employer.
- Uses effective communication, tact and persuasion with all levels of client including the staff, patients and relatives, taking into account impairments, levels of consciousness, language barriers and time constraints.
- Fosters good relationships with other departments, the multidisciplinary team and visitors to the unit. Helps to achieve and maintain morale for both staff and patients.
- Undertake photography for research, audit, publicity, promotion and marketing
- Staff portraits for website, journals, identity posters
- Use specialist knowledge, experience and initiative to guide clients with their lecture presentation requirements, e.g. range, style, quality, cost, time, corporate image etc.
- Provide Photographic and Graphic assistance in relation to Trust marketing, public relations and other printed information that includes for example;
- Documents Ward documentation,
- Posters Scientific, Medical/Surgical, Promotional, Staff Awards
- Leaflets Patient information, Staff information
- Booklets Speech and Language Therapy, Dietetics
- Other Articles for medical journal
- Maintain an up to date awareness of costs to the department and assist in ensuring that income generation work is appropriately charged.
- Take responsibility for ensuring costs to the department are minimised.
- Produce accurate ‘job sheets’ that form the basis of Trust invoices.
- Be responsible for monitoring stock levels of consumables and report as necessary.
- Exercise good stock control to manage resources effectively.
- Maintain an up-to-date specialist knowledge and practical expertise in all software programmes and output systems. Where appropriate notify departmental manager of availability of suitable training courses with regard to CPD.
- Be responsible for ongoing training assessment and quality control of all work produced within the graphics section.
- Fully understand and operate the Clinical Image Management software, taking responsibility for correct data input prior to uploading images to the Trust-wide intranet viewing system. Note: Clinical Image Management privileges are limited to Medical Photographers and the Office Administrator/Receptionist.
- Maintain an up to date knowledge of new systems and advise the department manager of any benefits regarding their acquisition.
- Have a working knowledge of Audio-Visual systems within the Trust and assist in their operation - usually under the direction of the Audio-Visual Technician.
- Be responsible for the uploading of clinical images sent in by patients for the virtual clinics
- Participate in the Trust’s annual appraisal system designed to identify objectives and personal development opportunities.
- Participate in the Trust’s annual pay progression review (if applicable).
- Ensure that all mandatory training is up to date
- The post holder will be responsible for continually maintaining their working knowledge of local practices, policies and procedures and highlight ongoing training and development needs to their manager.
