Healthcare Assistant Bank

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust specialises in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Various Wards are looking to recruit Bank Health Care Assistants. These Wards look after orthopaedic Patients.

Applications are invited from compassionate, enthusiastic, and motivated Healthcare Assistants who are committed to providing high standards of patient care.

We will provide:

  • Local induction period
  • A full time 2-week induction programme which incorporates the mandatory training and theory required for mandatory completion of the care certificate.
  • Clinical Educator support to complete the care certificate and any required clinical competencies

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication & relationship skills:
Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Promote effective and efficient communication with all members of the multi-professional team.

Provide effective working relationships with patients/relatives/carers/ nursing team/medical and multi-disciplinary teams.

Contribute to effective communication and minimise barriers where there are communication differences.

Report any complaints to the registered practitioner in charge immediately.

Provide and receive routine information.

Exhibit professional behaviour and attitude at all times.

Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge, training & experience:
Demonstrate knowledge of personal care and related procedures.

Undertake all training and development courses deemed appropriate for the role as specified by Trust policy and procedure.

Recognise own level of competence and limitations to ensure safe practice.

Adhere to the Trust’s uniform policy.

Actively participate in the Trust’s appraisal system.

Responsibility for patient care:
Support nurses and healthcare professionals in assisting patients in maintaining their personal hygiene needs prescribed in their individual plan of care (e.g. washing, bathing, dressing, toileting, care of nails, hair care etc).

Support and observe the patient, reporting to the registered nurse/healthcare professional any changes that might affect the patients’ health and well-being.

Provide care with due compassion and respect to patient’s customs, culture, rights and choices.

Provide assistance and support to ensure the psychological/emotional and physical needs of patients are met, responding and reporting appropriately.

Promote patient involvement in own care-no decision about me, without me.

Support the maintenance of privacy and dignity.

Support and assist patients with their nutritional/dietary needs including fluid intake.

Work with registered nurses and healthcare professionals to assess patient’s activities of daily living and the care required to promote independence.

Assist in the preparation of patients for procedures/investigations and to collect/deliver specimens as required.

Support the registered nurse/health professionals with carrying out duties e.g. chaperoning and observations and other delegated tasks whilst recognising own limitations.

Report any safeguarding or other concerns immediately to the registered nurse/healthcare professional or via the Trusts Speak out Safely process.

Preparation and cleaning of patient bed areas/rooms, cleaning equipment following discharge and transfer, safe disposal of soiled linen and tidying of general area.

Responsibility for Financial & Physical Resources:
Ensure careful use of ward/department equipment; handling of patient valuables; order ward supplies.

Maintain stock controls.
