Job summary

This is an exciting new role based within Medical Physics, linking closely to the team focussed on Quality, Governance and UKAS Accreditation based within the UHB Imaging service. We are looking for a quality systems specialist to lead the quality management activities of the UHB Medical Physics teams. This role will be supported by the speciality and personal development opportunities will be available to the successful candidate.

Initial focus - for the first 6 months - will be the maintenance of current ISO9001 certifications (In Radiation Protection, Radiotherapy Physics and Clinical Scientific Computing). Focus will then be to establish and drive the UKAS Accreditation for our Positron Emission Tomography (PET) service, which is part of Nuclear Medicine.

The post holder will be proactive, self motivated with skills that give attention to detail. You will be experienced in administration for healthcare organisations. A passion for quality systems (ISO9001 or UKAS) is essential. You will have experience in quality audit and be competent with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word). The post holder will be professional and clear in communication verbally, via telephone, email or letter. It is worth noting that specialist knowledge within Medical Physics is not required to apply for this post.

The post will be a full time position with opportunities for flexible working and some degree of remote working will be considered.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder will be a member of the management teams of Nuclear Medicine and RRPPS, ensuring accurate information is available and recorded; monitoring the implementation of any agreed actions which need to be undertaken to ensure targets are met. As a key member of the team they will be required to;

  • Support the Heads of RRPPS and Nuclear Medicine Services to disseminate the outcomes of internal and/or external audits, coordinate and participate in internal audits,
  • Analyse and communicate complex data using a variety of different means i.e. verbal, written, presentation,
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System.
  • Assist in facilitating external accreditation inspections.
  • Give presentations and deliver training sessions to various staff groups related to the compliance and governance frameworks.

Working under their own initiative, with minimal guidance from the Heads of Services, the post holder will be expected to prioritise their workload, interpret relevant policies in order to achieve expected work tasks and outcomes within agreed deadlines.

A strong link is anticipated with the Quality and Governance lead of the UHB Imaging service.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent professional management qualification
  • Further management training and / or relevant managerial experience to post graduate diploma level

Desirable

  • Project Management qualification
  • Auditor qualification
  • Specific post-graduate qualifications in ISO 9001 and BSI (applicants without these qualifications will be expected to complete training while in post)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a compliance, quality improvement or governance role
  • Experience of internal audit
  • Experience of preparing complex reports and other documents to a high standard
  • Experience of analysing complex data and information
  • Experience of presenting complex information and reports
  • Experience building effective relationships and working closely with staff from a variety of different backgrounds and levels of knowledge
  • Experience of sharing best practice across services and hospital sites
  • Experience of supporting junior staff
  • Knowledge of quality measurement, monitoring and continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of external regulatory requirements relating to Imaging Services
  • Knowledge of internal and external audit requirements relating to data quality and quality improvement

Desirable

  • Experience in an acute NHS setting
  • Knowledge of national quality standards e.g. UKAS QSI Standard 2021
  • Radiographic experience at a senior level
  • Experience of delivering education and training sessions
  • Experience of working collaboratively with a range of NHS and non-NHS organisations
  • Understanding of the requirements of IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR 2017
  • Knowledge of national quality standards e.g. UKAS QSI Standard 2021, ISO9001
