We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiasticTrainee Band 5/Band 6 Specialist Biomedical (Annex 21 B6 considered) scientistwith knowledge and interest in diagnostic cytology, to join our well established, dedicated, supportive and dynamic team. The ability to work in a team is essential as well as being able to work accurately, innovatively, and independently. The successful candidate will be working alongside other BMS staff, MLAs, Pathologists and the administrative team to provide a high-quality diagnostic cytology service. The department handles up to 6000 diagnostic cytology samples annually and is located at Queens Hospital part of BHR University Trust. Key responsibilities include routine preparation, evaluation and reporting of diagnostic cytology samples. The post holder will be required to participate in all aspects of the service on a rotational basis. Other duties include administrative tasks, internal quality control and external quality control participation, supervision of MLA staff, training of new starters and ensuring continuous compliance with UKAS requirements. Training will be provided to the successful candidate.
The post holder will perform the scientific investigations required in the department of diagnostic cytology under the direction of the senior Biomedical Scientists. Delegated duties may include supervision of new members of staff, an involvement in training, quality and or health and safety.
The purpose of the role is to support the diagnostic service provided by the department to the trust and to provide scientific support to the Cellular Pathology Consultants in providing a diagnostic cytology service.
Under the leadership of our Chair, Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive we provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.
Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic and Harold Wood Polyclinic.
