An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the new Birmingham and Solihull Perinatal Pelvic Health Service who are 1 of 14 Early Implementer System (EIS) for the NHS England Maternity Transformation Project.
As an EIS, we have been given the opportunity to build capacity to improve prevention, prompt identification and treatment for mild to moderate pelvic injury. We will establish an integrated and equitable service across Birmingham and Solihull Local Maternity and Neonatal System which encompasses both University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust. This new service will be provided to all women and birthing people from the start of pregnancy and up to 12 months after birth.
The successful candidate will work with the clinical team to provide administrative and clinical support. You will have the opportunity to develop a greater depth of knowledge of good pelvic health and the effect of pregnancy and birth on pelvic health, including problems relating to any symptom of pelvic floor dysfunction, and be able to transfer that knowledge to women and birthing people through 1:1 or group sessions. You will be trained by and work under the supervision of the Pelvic Health Physiotherapists in the team. The clinical team consists of Clinical Lead Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, Pelvic Health Physiotherapist and Specialist Midwife.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
To work as an integral and active part of the Perinatal Pelvic Health Service (PPHS) and work collaboratively with the wider Pelvic Health Physiotherapy services within the Birmingham and Solihull LMNS. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Perinatal Pelvic Health team in management of admin processes directly relating to the PPHS and having a clinical role supporting women and birthing people in outpatient and community settings with problems relating to pelvic floor dysfunction.
- To work under the indirect supervision of the Physiotherapists in providing a high standard physiotherapy service in a variety of settings which could include; Physiotherapy Outpatients, gym classes and/or community hubs, in 1:1 or group sessions.
- Assist in the provision of care to patients, supported and supervised by the physiotherapists.
- Carry out clinical tasks including instruction and supervision of set advice and exercise in a group or 1:1 setting as delegated by qualified staff.
- Provide 1:1 treatment sessions with pelvic health patients in the outpatient or community setting, progress exercises in a timely manner and apply clinical reasoning skills in exercise prescription.
- To triage pelvic health referrals and manage appointment booking through the Single Point of Access portal and liaise with other physiotherapy teams.
- To manage a small patient caseload.
- To provide high quality group exercise sessions to patients.

Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE or equivalent qualification in English and Mathematics
- Knowledge of anatomy/physiology and maternity care
- Specific clinical knowledge relevant to speciality
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification
Desirable
- Foundation Degree or equivalent in related field/willingness to work towards or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential
- Experience as a band 3 physiotherapy assistant or maternity support worker within an NHS or gym setting or equivalent experience
- Working within a team
Desirable
- Experience in an outpatient setting
- Experience of running group exercise or information sessions, either virtual or in person
- Undertaking exercise prescription for people with long term conditions
- Evaluating outcomes of exercise
- Knowledge of therapy interventions acquired through training or experience within a healthcare setting
- Experience of caring for women in the immediate postnatal period
