The post holder will assist the Consultant Histopathologists, Specialty Doctors and Biomedical Scientist in the preparation and technical work of the various sections of Histology and /or Cytology department. Duties are supervised by the Biomedical Scientists.
Cellular Pathology Department – Based at Queen’s Hospital, Romford
Medical Laboratory Assistant, Band 3
We are looking for someone to support the work of our friendly but busy Cellular Pathology department based at Queen’s Hospital, Romford. This post is based at Queens Hospital, but all staff must be prepared to work at King George Hospital if required.
The successful candidate will join our existing staff in preparing patient tissue and fluid samples in readiness for examination by Biomedical Scientists, Clinical Scientists and Pathologists. The ideal candidate will aspire to working in the NHS and have a genuine interest in science and Pathology.
The Cellular Pathology department receives 45,000 patient requests per annum . The successful candidate must be IT literate and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills (verbal and written), organization and manual dexterity skills possessing a minimum of grade C / 4 or above in Science (preferably biology), Mathematics and English at GCSE level. You must provide details of this minimum qualification request on your application. Prior laboratory experience would be an advantage although not essential.
This is not a training post.
The hospital is located close to the main line station of Romford and is easily accessible from the M25 via the A12. It is only a 10 minute walk from the busy town Centre. Stratford is 15 minutes away by rail and central London with its history, numerous attractions and nightlife only 30 minutes away. The Essex countryside and coast is within easy reach by both rail and road
