As a Healthcare Assistant you will work as part of the ward/department team, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, providing support and feedback on care provided. You will participate in the delivery of patient centred care, with a compassionate and professional attitude at all times, to your patients, carers and colleagues.
Working as part of the Multi-disciplinary team you will build relationships through safe effective and non-discriminatory communication and maintain high standards of professionalism with members of the team, patients, carers and relatives. You will develop key life skills and have opportunity to build your career, with the support of educators, mentors and clinical supervisors.
We are a 24/7 service you will need to work days, Nights and weekend shifts. Most shifts start at 0730hrs for day time and 2000hrs for nights. Whilst most staff choose to work long shifts there are opportunities to work shorter days and to join the Bank for additional hours if wanted.
Interviews will be 2 weeks from advert, you will need to present evidence of qualifications without these you will need to undertake and pass the BKSB functional skills test before Interview
Main duties, tasks & skills required
As a HCA you will act as the patient advocate and voice. You will be expected to chaperone and support patients of all genders, during examinations and treatments, responding swiftly to patients needs both physical and mental. You will provide assistance with activities of daily living, nutrition, fluids, mobilisation and repositioning as required by the patient and will be exposed to bodily fluids.
You will undertake basic patient observations following appropriate training and supervision, understanding their implications and report these back to the registered nurses in a clear and concise manner.
You will work within your scope of practise maintaining the safety of your patients, colleagues and visitors. Maintain confidentiality at all times with patient, colleagues and relatives data.
You will observe Health and Safety processes and actively participate in ensuring Infection Prevention measures are followed at all times. Above all you will uphold the Trusts Values of Kind, connected and Bold in everything you do.
Healthcare assistants new to Trust will be automatically enrolled on the Care Certificate on commencing employment. You will also have access to clinical Educators in the department, who can help you build on your skill and direct you to available training programmes and professional development.
