Job Description


We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Ads squad. As a part of the cross-functional Ads team you will collaborate with a Product Manager, Designer and Data Scientist and work alongside iOS, Web, Backend & QA engineers to develop and maintain features and tools that enables our users to promote their items, making them stand out alongside organic search results!

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality software solutions by collaborating closely in a cross-functional setting with Product Managers, Designers, Web, iOS, and other Backend Engineers.
  • Own your code and workflows, through its entire lifecycle.
  • Create well-structured, high-quality code that is easy to understand with appropriate level of monitoring and documentation.
  • Engage in a culture of continuous improvement by attending events such as blameless post-mortems, architecture reviews etc
  • Leverage our experimentation platform to test MVP solutions and use learnings to build robust, durable solutions and features for Depop users.

Qualifications


Must haves

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient in testing solutions at different levels —unit, integration, etc.
  • Experience working with Frontend Engineers (Web/Mobile).
  • Being proactive in identifying and resolving complex problems on your own, while also being aware of when to seek assistance from others.
  • Ability to develop backends using Scala & Play.
  • Experience with relational or non-relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, DynamoDB.
  • DevOps experience with CI/CD pipelines.

Nice to haves

  • Experience building data-intensive and/or microservices-based architectures.
  • Experience with Message queues preferably Kafka.
  • Experience with eCommerce platforms.
  • Experience working with Optimizely and familiar with experiment-based approach to product development.
