Job description
We are recruiting a Backend Engineer to help us build a decoupled and event-driven architecture.
As a Backend Engineer, your first challenge will be to implement cloud-native data and event streaming solutions that support our long-term architectural ambitions. Once complete the role will evolve and widen to innovate across the spectrum of backend engineering.
You will join a vibrant Enterprise Architecture team, working alongside Engineers and Architects, serving a range of agile engineering and tech teams across our dynamic and supportive Technology Services department.
What does the job involve?
- Working with Architects, data specialists and engineers to build solutions that decouple our architecture.
- Being responsible for the full software lifecycle, from requirement to production and beyond.
- Safely replacing legacy tech in a complex and fast-moving context.
- Mentoring other engineers and agile teams to industrialise modernisation and innovation.
- Continuous improvement, refinement and refactoring.
Technical skills
Essential:
- Strong experience in developing services and APIs using C# and/or Java
- Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases
- Secure development practices.
- Using a git-based source control system.
- Knowledge of CI automation systems such as Jenkins
Desirable:
- Event streaming (e.g. Kafka, Kinesis) and change data capture (CDC).
- Messaging (e.g. RabbitMQ, SQS)
- Working knowledge of domain-driven design.
- Docker and container orchestration tools.
- Integration design patterns.
- Test-driven development (TDD).
- AWS cloud infrastructure.
Competence, knowledge, and skills
Essential:
- Experience working in an Agile and DevOps environment.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Planning, organisation, and time management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
- Educated to degree level.
- Relevant AWS certifications.
- Previous experience working in e-commerce and/or financial services.
