We are looking for an AWS Cloud Engineer to join the Platforms team here at Reach Plc to deliver and support engaging new functionality for the UK’s number one digital news provider. With a large portfolio of over 100+ products we deliver news & information on a national & regional level. We have over 150 staff in our Product & Engineering department which is one of the most exciting digital teams to join in the UK (if you have ever read the Mirror, Star, Express or one of our local Live brands online you’ll have experienced the work of this team).
Reporting to the Head of Platforms, the AWS Cloud Engineer will work closely with the development teams, QA, product, operations & other infrastructure engineers within the team.
This is a remote role within the UK. The infrastructure team works entirely remotely with occasional meetings in the office.

- Plan & document work before commencing
- Attend to AWS Request for actions
- Perform regular system refreshes
- Maintain pre existing systems
- Manage & create AWS Accounts, Users, Groups & permissions in SSO
- Decommission infrastructure safely
- Mitigate security non-compliances (across accounts)
- Responding to ad hoc requests from other teams / stakeholders
- Principles & practices of CI/CD with everyday working knowledge
- Creation, maintenance & optimisation of deployment pipelines
- Common GIT workflows & their appropriate usage
- JIRA/Confluence & G Suite
- Solid knowledge of Varnish, Nginx, Tomcat & Apache
- Faulting finding & tracing using terminal access & other tools
- Infrastructure as code, specifically CloudFormation
- AWS Security, from the use of policies, roles & SSO to security groups & network access controls lists. Preferably with understanding of OUs & SCPs
- Cost control & cost awareness across the AWS estate
- Strong skills around logging, monitoring & alerting
- Skills across various AWS services including, CloudFront, R53, EC2, ECS, RDS, Dynamo, Lambda etc
- Boto3 & Python preferable
- A self-starter with a can-do attitude
- Effective communication and time management skills
Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstrated professional experience working with AWS
- Strong hands on with AWS infrastructure experience
- AWS Certifications preferable
