Duties

This position is within the Office of Artesia Operations (OAO), Core Training Operations Directorate (CTO) under the Office of the Associate Director for Training Operations (TOPS) and located in, Artesia, New Mexico. The position serves as a confidential staff assistant and provides substantial administrative and management support duties to ensure accomplishment of the FLETC and the OAO missions.

Typical duties include:

  • Training staff on office practices in areas that include timekeeping duties, travel authorizations, training requests, and personnel actions.
  • Recommending changes in procedures, equipment and methods so that information can be accurately and expeditiously presented.
  • Utilizing various software and office automation equipment producing various forms, reports, and other requested products.
  • Developing systems for the control and access to office records and files within.
  • Preparing correspondence based on known views and desires of the supervisor.

In addition, you must possess one of the following:

1. At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service performing 1) performing complex administrative functions (e.g., initiating personnel actions, making travel arrangements, and/or preparing correspondence) for office staff; 2) developing and implementing procedures designed to improve staff administrative effectiveness, automating and streamlining procedures; and 3) performing a variety of budget administrative support functions. OR

2. Successful completion of one and a half years of graduate-level education (27 semester hours) from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Please provide a copy of your transcripts. OR

3. An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate level education as described above from an accredited college or university. Only graduate education in excess of the first 18 semester hours will be combined with the specialized experience. Please provide a copy of your transcripts.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps and AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The first assessment will consist of skilled-based questions designed to evaluate the degree to which you possess the skills needed to perform the duties of the positions being filled. These questions are scored, and you must score at least 85 out of 100 points in order to be invited to participate in the second assessment.

The second assessment is the Performance Assessment Network System (PANS) which is a predictive assessment that measures your cognitive ability and soft skills. This assessment may take more than an hour and a half to complete; portions are timed; and may include videos.
