The Role
Supported by the Head of Legal, Data and Technology and working with and supervising Condé Nast’s Legal Counsel, Data Privacy and colleagues in Condé Nast’s Legal & Policy, you will provide day to day data privacy advice to clients across all functions of our business, and take responsibility for privacy related project work across all of Condé Nast’s markets.
Working closely with the Condé Nast’s Global Product, Technology and Data, Information Security, Consumer, Commercial, AdOps, Revenue, Data and Procurement teams, together with Condé Nast’s international markets, you will ensure our business has a globally integrated approach to data privacy compliance and that colleagues have the tools and information they need to sustainably operate in a data secure and aware environment.
The Team
The Condé Nast Legal & Policy team is led by the General Counsel based in our London HQ and is comprised of colleagues in London, New York, China, France, Italy, Germany, Spain,Mexico, India, Japan and Taiwan. We are also supported by a network of outside counsel and work closely with colleagues in Advance Legal who provide legal counsel to Condé Nast and our parent company, Advance Publications.
What will you be doing?
  • Supervising Legal Counsel, Data Privacy on day to day data privacy matters for all markets, including reviewing and drafting data protection terms in agreements, carrying out supplier due diligence and advising on product development and marketing matters
  • Working with Legal Counsel, Data Privacy on TIA and DPIA
  • Supporting the delivery of new products, services and projects from a privacy perspective and providing specialist data protection advice on digital platforms and products
  • Working with Legal Counsel, Commercial, developing and maintaining data privacy related templates to support the business, including for procurement, commercial and entertainment teams
  • Supporting responses to privacy related regulatory investigations and litigation
  • Partnering with relevant stakeholders, providing legal support on privacy related breaches
  • Supporting the completion of data subject rights requests and during a period of maternity leave, overseeing (by way of dotted line reporting where necessary), the work of colleagues responsible for first line processing of and response to data subjects’ rights requests
  • Supporting provision of data privacy advice across other towers in Condé Nast Legal & Policy
  • Working with Legal Counsel, Data Privacy (US) to provide rest of world privacy advice on US focussed matters
  • Supporting wider technology law advisory services across all towers of Condé Nast Legal & Policy, including in relation to issues around artificial intelligence, innovative products and infrastructure, platform and application development and roll out.
  • Promoting Condé Nast’s data governance strategies and activities in market
  • Keeping up to date with with the latest developments in legal, commercial and industry trends
Who you are:
  • Legally qualified in the UK or an EEA jurisdiction with 5 years minimum relevant experience
  • Strong experience in privacy law gained either in private practice or in an in-house role in a similar sector to Condé Nast, including a thorough knowledge of applicable industry codes and best practice
  • Ability to present legal advice in a pragmatic, problem solving and commercial fashion
  • Positive “can do” attitude and willingness to work flexibly and as part of a new and evolving team that is itself operating in a business and sector going through change
  • Deep knowledge of UK and European data protection law, GDPR and e-Privacy essential. Knowledge and awareness of international data protection laws, especially US data privacy laws, a plus
  • Expertise in digital technologies, in particular adtech, required.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, and an ability to speak other languages would be an advantage
  • Ability to present legal advice in a pragmatic, problem solving and commercial fashion
  • Positive “can do” attitude and willingness to work flexibly and as part of a new and evolving team that is itself operating in a business and sector going through change
