Purpose
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, dedicated and experienced Solicitor to join the Family department of Paul Crowley & Co Solicitors, based at our head office in Anfield. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Department and will join a highly professional and motivated team.
The prime role of the Associate Family Solicitor is to earn fees by advising on a wide variety of Family and Children law matters including both private and public, and to assist in building the Family Law portfolio. You are expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative, whilst communicating effectively with partners, colleagues, and clients.
The Associate will work closely with the Head of Department and work towards acting as the second in command to the team. You must continue to build your legal, business and client skills and prepare to take on additional responsibilities depending on performance level.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years PQE and have a proven track record of handling a mixed caseload of a variety of Family matters..
Person Specification and requirements
- Experience in advising on a variety of Family matters
- Strong time-management and ability to manage own caseload
- Strong Advocacy skills
- Knowledge and experience of Legal Aid
- Genuine passion for Family law
- Commercially minded
- Professional and effective communicator with team members and senior colleagues
- Pro-active and ‘can do’ attitude
- Own referral source would be a distinct advantage
- Panel membership or working towards would be a distinct advantage
- Knowledge and experience of Lexcel Compliance is desirable
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for earning fees by actively working towards individual and departmental targets and objectives as set by HOD
- Responsible for the effective management and advisory service of all aspects of allocated Family and Children Law cases, including but not limited to:
– Private and Public matters
– Divorce and Matrimonial
– Domestic Abuse
– Non-molestation
- CCMS applications, amendments and POAs
- Arrange and attend meetings with clients ensuring a professional service and excellent client care standards
- Negotiate with clients and other professionals to secure agreed objectives
- Attend court hearings, prison visits, police stations and any other off-site requirements
- Provide advocacy
- Draft legal documents and various court applications
- Legal Aid work
- Monitoring, actioning, and updating various electronic portals
- Research and analyse documents and case law to ensure the accuracy of advice and procedure
- Actively develop management skills to help support the Head of Department with various management tasks
- Build key relationships with the firm’s client base and wider external industry
- Keep up to date with changes and developments in the law by reading journals and law reports
- Be commercially minded and contribute towards the growth and development of the Firm by identifying opportunities to expand business
- Provide advice and guidance to other employees throughout the Firm, including supervising and training trainee solicitors and paralegals
- Adhering to process and procedures as directed by the HOD
- Undertake specific training when required and have overall responsibility towards self-development
- Be actively involved in ensuring compliance in Lexcel and other standards
- Ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and client’s documentation and information by complying with GDPR
- Be actively involved in business development activities and networking
- Undertake any other duties as required by the Directors as necessary for other fee earners and employees
