May plan, direct, or coordinate marketing policies and programs; activities designed to create or maintain a favorable public image or raise issue awareness of University initiatives; revise or edit written material; review proposals and drafts for possible publication.
Job Description
The University of Akron, a NCAA Division 1 (FBS) institution and member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) is seeking applications for the position of Associate Director for Athletics Communications. This position will work with Men's Basketball and other sports as assigned and assist with the day to day publications for and communication initiatives of the athletics department and managing statistical records and maintain the department's website.
Duties: This position will work with Men's Basketball and other sports as assigned. Design and maintain media guides, game programs and departmental websites. Update, maintain and report conference/national level events. Travel with teams to handle media relations while serving as an intermediary between the University's athletic programs and the media/public. Nominate and promote University teams, coaches and players for conference, regional and national awards/honors. Write and submit information for the press in local, national and regional publications. Manage the scheduling and payroll functions of statistics crew for game day operations/management.
Additional Position Information:
Requirements: Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 4 (four) years of experience in public relations and media communications for athletic events is required. Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet and desktop publishing capabilities are necessary. Ability to record and interpret sports statistics is necessary. Knowledge of all sports and related NCAA rules and regulations is required.

Compensation: The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
