Are you interested in working for a charity that makes a real difference to the lives of vulnerable adults?

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Support Worker (known internally as Duty Worker) to join the South London Women’s Hostel. In this role, you will work alongside a specialised team to create and maintain an environment of support for women with complex needs, including substance use, offending, and children and families.

The hostel provides a client-centred recovery based approach tailored to the needs of the individual women. Staff promote engagement with internal and external services with the purpose of enabling clients to be independent and make positive choices in their lives.

About you

As the Duty Worker in this service, you will work as part of team to manage the safe day to day running of the service and provide basic support and advice to clients. You will also be the first point of contact for clients and visitors and will be responsible for coordinating the daily in support of clients. You will help create a safe environment in which women who have experienced trauma, abuse and sexual exploitation are able to build their confidence and discover opportunities for positive change.

To succeed in the role you will;

  • Have strong customer/client service skills
  • Posses the ability to communicate and engage sensitively and creatively with women with alcohol, drug, mental health and physical health support needs
  • Understand the needs of homeless people and the particular needs of this project’s client group
  • Work in an empathic way, whilst maintaining professional boundaries, with women who may have experienced complex trauma

Flexibility is required as you will be working a shift rota.
