Job description

North West Thunder, in partnership with Lancashire Cricket Sports Science and Medicine Team, seeks applications from Assistant Physiotherapists to join our team. Thunder Cricket strive to be leaders in performance both on and off the field, and as a key member of our team you will have the opportunity to work as part of a well-established multidisciplinary Science & Medicine Team. You will help to physically prepare the players for the demands of elite cricket, aiming to minimise the impact of injury and illness, whilst maximising performance.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Thunder and Lancashire Cricket Sports Science & Medicine Team, contributing to the development of the service at all levels, in association with the Director of Medical Services and Regional Performance Centre Director of Women’s Cricket.

Please note, this is a part-time role, working roughly 20-25 hours a week, with the potential for this to grow to a full-time role for the 2024 or 2025 season.

Key Responsibilities

  • Alongside the Lead Physiotherapist and another Assistant Physiotherapist, provide high quality physiotherapy to support Thunder players in line with the Science & Medicine Team’s values
  • To work collaboratively with the wider MDT to support player performance and development goals in line with each player’s Individual Development Plan’s (IDP’s).
  • Support recovery protocols for players on match, training, and practice days in keeping with Thunder’s strategy for injury prevention.
  • As part of the Thunder Physiotherapy team, attend selected fixtures of Thunder Senior, Academy and age group squads during the summer as required, offering pitch-side trauma cover and support of the players and coaching staff as determined by the team fixtures.
  • Alongside the Physiotherapy team, work collaboratively with the CMO to ensure high standards of medical governance, supporting medical screening and profiling.
  • Communicate non-confidential headline availability and fitness status information with the Regional Head Coach/Regional Talent Manager.
  • To work collaboratively with ECB staff to co-manage international pathway players
  • To actively participate in the Women’s Science and Medicine Review process.
  • To attend and contribute to regular multidisciplinary meetings to drive the development of Thunder Cricket.
  • Ensure medical record keeping standards are maintained at a satisfactory level as per HCPC guidelines and are entered on to the ECB’s injury Management Database.
  • Undertake appropriate CPD to keep abreast of world’s best practice and current evidence-based research. Actively contribute to Thunder and Lancashire Cricket Sports Science and Medicine Team’s CPD programme.
  • To support local and England & Wales Cricket Board led clinical/performance/research projects.

Essential Requirements

  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP).
  • Undergraduate or post graduate degree in Physiotherapy.
  • At least 3 years experience working independently as a qualified physiotherapist within musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
  • Current advanced trauma management and emergency care accreditation (or ability to complete this in the near future if successful).
  • High standards of personal and professional integrity.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • WIlingness to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Driving licence, with access to a vehicle.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working with elite athletes/teams including touring with high performance squads.
  • Experience working with youth/developmental athletes in a sporting environment.

The post holder will be expected to work evenings, weekends and possibly Bank Holidays. This role will also require regular travel throughout the U.K during the Cricket season.
