Mencap is the UK’s leading learning disability charity, and we have an exciting position as an Assistant Media Officer.
We are a passionate and dedicated team who work with journalists across print, broadcast and online media to:
- Get learning disability firmly at the heart of the news agenda
- Improve representation of people with a learning disability in the media
- Get media coverage for our campaigns on issues affecting people with a learning disability
We do this by:
- Establishing excellent relations with the media and responding to enquiries in an efficient and timely manner
- Finding creative ways to get our messages heard in the national media
- Finding inspiring stories that will peak the media’s interest in our campaigns and messages
As Assistant Media Officer you will be a crucial cog in ensuring the smooth running of the press office. With essential administrative tasks such as media monitoring, compiling press lists, evaluation reports and logging coverage and requests you will keep the team running efficiently.
Additionally you will be at the heart of generating media coverage for Mencap by dealing with journalist enquiries, researching creative publicity ideas, drafting media materials and setting up media interviews among other activities.
The Assistant Media Officer role is full time (37.5 hours per week), on a 6 month fixed term contract. We are based in our London office but we offer flexible working.
