Job description

Team
Major Projects Advisory (MPA) team is helping to solve some of the biggest challenges in infrastructure and public services, making an impact on things that affect the wellbeing and prosperity of everyone in the UK. The work is varied and complex, and no one else does it quite like we do.

We're passionate about:
  • Change and reform in the public sector
  • The future of transport and mobility
  • Decarbonisation and sustainability

We work with clients in:
  • Central Government
  • Transport (roads, rail and aviation)
  • Energy and Utilities (electricity, nuclear, water)

We focus on:
  • Capital projects and programmes
  • Complex portfolios
  • Major transformations
  • Progressive assurance

On the back of continuing growth and success in the market, we're investing in our team and boosting our numbers - which means you'll be joining one of the fastest growing areas of the firm at a time of real significance.

About the role
As a team, we take on a wide range of assignments, requiring entrepreneurial spirit and intellectual curiosity. Our Assistant Managers are at the forefront of making things happen for our clients, and candidates need a breadth of professional experience - ideally gained from Public Sector & Government -related projects and programmes, but we'll happily consider candidates with a track record in other relevant fields. As one of the junior consultants on the ground, you'll be applying your knowledge and skills every day, supporting teams to bring solutions to life.

Typically, your day-to-day involves:
  • Being part of high-performing teams
  • Supporting the delivery of client-facing work within specialist areas, embedding a strong human / end user focus - which includes producing high-quality outputs with excellent attention to detail
  • Helping to manage financial aspects of an engagement - ensuring we keep clients informed of costs and time incurred, in addition to raising invoices and recovering fees
  • Supporting business development activities - helping to identify potential opportunities for new assignments and assisting with bids and proposals
  • Keeping up to date with developments affecting your work, identifying opportunities for thought leadership and assisting with the development of KPMG's opinion in your specific technical area
  • Understanding the broader suite of services offered by KPMG and identifying opportunities to collaborate and design unique solutions for our clients
  • Coaching and mentoring your colleagues - both up and down
  • Being a role model and living our values

The sort of people we're looking for
There is no one-size fits all in MPA; we're as diverse as the world around us. We hand pick our people because they're our most important asset - and people pick us because we really mean that.

Your track record should evidence:
  • Experience of working in an advisory or delivery capacity - either for another consultancy or in a client-side role in industry, Government or the wider public sector
  • Experience of applying project, programme and/or portfolio management - and a passion for the discipline
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills - including working with numerical data
  • An ability to build and maintain great relationships
  • Confident communication and presentation skills
  • Relevant experience using different software / applications (e.g. Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Oracle P6, Slack, Clarizen)
  • Relevant professional certification - e.g. APM PMQ/PPQ/ChPP; MoP; MSP; PRINCE2

Experience in one of the following areas would also help you stand out - but it's not essential:
  • Delivering targeted business process improvements in relation to capital investment portfolios and major projects / programmes
  • Performance and efficiency improvement in large/complex organisations
  • Enhancing project and programme controls
  • Assurance and monitoring

A final word from us...

Everybody likes to say they're different... but we really think we are.

We're hugely proud of what we've managed to achieve so far, but we're only just getting started. We're looking for people to grow with us and are committed to helping everybody reach their destination, regardless of what that is.

Should you choose to join us, you can expect an attractive benefits package, which typically includes:

Financial
  • A competitive salary
  • Pension options
  • Bonus scheme that reflects firm and individual performance
  • Rail and Oyster Card reimbursement
  • Staff discounts
  • Access to preferential banking

Lifestyle
  • 25 days holiday, with the option to buy up to an extra 10 days, plus an additional day of leave for your birthday
  • Competitive maternity and paternity leave
  • 6 days of work time each year for volunteering
  • Daily lunch allowance
  • Flextra - a flexible benefits scheme that allows you to choose benefits for you and your family, such as, travel insurance, critical illness insurance, dental insurance and discounted gym memberships

Health and Wellbeing
  • Private medical insurance
  • Personal accident insurance
  • Life assurance of 4 x salary with the option to increase this via flexible benefits scheme
  • Access to private, remote GP appointments anytime and anywhere via a smartphone
  • Online health risk questionnaire
  • BeWell employee assistance programme for confidential information, advice, or counselling for life's daily challenges
  • Group Income Protection

No matter what skills you bring to our team, you'll be surrounded by spirited, naturally curious people. People who want to learn from you, and who'll also teach you a thing or two along the way. It's how we make a collective impact, greater than the sum of its parts.

And if this isn't the role for you but you like what you see, keep in touch. There will be other opportunities to join us.
