Job Title: Assistant Management Accountant
Reporting to: Management Accountant
Contract: Permanent, Full-time

About the Service/Department
To assist in the provision of a budgeting and management accounting service to the organisation for over 70 services, including the setting of service charges for 600 units of accommodation. To support the process for the provision of the management accounts and provide accounting advice and support to the services. You will also contribute towards the provision of the annual statutory accounts and support the Senior Management Accountant

About the role

Budgeting

  • To help and assist in the set up, preparation and agreement of the annual individual cost centre budgets (in excess of 70 services) in consultation with budget holders.

Management Accounts

  • To help and assist with preparing cost centre reports for managers and liaising with managers for explanations on variance returns and seeking options to reduce overspends
  • To oversee any agreed corrective action to be undertaken and report on progress. These include; correcting posting errors, recharges etc.
  • Support managers in recoding and allocating costs from central services
  • To provide support on all aspects of budgeting, financial performance reporting and highlight any problem areas to the Senior Management Accountant, Area Managers / Regional Directors.
  • Set up new cost centres and codes for finance mainframe system, routine journal posting, accruals and prepayments . Add codes to other feeder systems
  • Run the necessary financial reports as required by senior management

Service Charges

  • Liaison with the various managing agents (landlords) to agree the annual rents and service charges. Monitor the landlords invoices for accurate spend

Annual Accounts and Audit

  • Review expenditure codes to ensure potential fixed assets are capitalised. Review the depreciation and perform the calculations
  • Raise prepayments, water and energy accruals and any other necessary reconciliations for audit

About you

  • Working towards a professional qualification preferably with a CCAB recognized body or international equivalent
  • Minimum three years experience in a busy account's environment covering all aspects of accounting
  • Experience of budgeting and management accounting processes and reporting to senior management
  • Strong query handling and administrative skills
  • Commitment to continuous personal and professional development
  • Excellent communication skills both written and spoken
  • The ability to build and maintain positive relationships
  • Be able to work under pressure and deliver a high-volume workload
  • Committed to being a positive contributor to the team
  • Demonstrate a flexible and proactive approach to work
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong IT skills with a good understanding of MS Office
  • Ability to act as an ambassador for Hestia and the work we do to support vulnerable adults and children
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately
