This Content and Science Writing position requires a passion for working in an innovative industry that is committed to developing new medicines or solutions that can help or perhaps cure people battling health conditions and devastating diseases. The ideal candidate is a skilled science writer with experience working with biotech and life sciences companies, either as a journalist, at a communications agency or for a biotech/life science organization. They will synthesize learnings from Evoke Canale’s tried and true positioning workshops to develop long lasting, differentiated story telling platforms and positioning statements for the most exciting biotech companies in the industry. They will oversee copywriting projects for dozens of websites Evoke Canale launches each year, bringing both content and visuals to life with a unique brand persona. In this role, the vice president will help set the strategy for strengthening and building writing capabilities across the organization, including the expansion of our content team. This person will also help grow our content offerings including social media, video storyboarding, thought leadership including bylined articled, and paid media.
Strongly prefer a candidate that is near one of the main offices; New York City, Boston, or San Diego.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the content team and mentor staff in writing skills and copy editing
- Participate in positioning workshops and spearhead the development of positioning statements and messaging – the foundation for all communications programs
- Oversee content development for website projects, engaging with inhouse creatives to deliver messaging in visually and emotionally compelling ways
- Participate in thought leadership and story mining calls with executive teams, forming storytelling platforms and narratives that can be told across multiple channels spanning media outlets, websites, social media
- Help identify new content platforms and opportunities to achieve clients communications objectives
- Champion junior staff on multiple tasks and help in their ongoing growth and development
Requirements:
- Have a journalism or science writing background (B.S., M.S. or Ph.D.) and 10+ years’ experience in the biotech industry or in a communications-related position
- Have a strong grasp and ability to eloquently produce and meticulously review all necessary content such as press releases, website copy, blogs, bylines/op-eds, video storyboards, newsletters, social media calendars
- Revel in anticipating clients’ needs and creatively solve problems
- Be a self-starter, with initiative and an eagerness to learn, think critically and creatively, and stretch their skills
- Be a voracious consumer of news in order to track industry trends relevant to clients and life sciences industry
- Be comfortable communicating with diverse groups of people, including executives, entrepreneurs, investors and journalists
