Statfold Farm is seeking a full time Assistant Herdsperson to assist in the management and development of their dairy farm. We are seeking candidates who can aid in the operation of a progressive and profitable dairy business, through the highest standards of husbandry. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an advancing farming operation and gain valuable experience in becoming part of the management team and seeking a career in dairy farming rather than a job.

We are an ADHB Monitor farm focused on cow welfare, lifestyle and profitability. The farm consists of 290 cows plus followers in an all year round calving which are milked through a 20:20 Fulwood parlour with ADF. The girls are fed a TMR and achieve towards 12,000 litres. We are looking for someone who has a passion for cows who has a positive attitude, excellent attention to detail who can step seamlessly into the role holding the animals health and welfare as one of their priorities. We are open to candidates of lesser experience, with offsite and onsite training available to help develop your career.

Responsibilities:

The role will entail most aspects of day to day running of our high performing and high health status herd, with a good variety of milking, scraping, calving, calf rearing, yard work, animal handling etc. Main responsibilities include;

  • Working alongside the herd manager
  • Milking
  • Assisting in maintaining the feeding and breeding regimes
  • Ensure hygiene and animal health and welfare is maintained to a high standard

Person requirements:

  • Excellent stockmanship
  • Willing to give a long term commitment to the role
  • An excellent work ethic with a thirst for knowledge
  • Flexible and with the right attitude to fit in with the existing team
  • Well organised and proactive
  • Capable of following protocols to maintain the farm to a high standard
  • High levels of dairy hygiene, with good attention to detail to achieve fantastic milk quality results
  • Full valid UK driving licence.

Working week: Full time Monday to Friday 7.30-1700. One day alternate weekends 5-9am and 13.00-16.00.

Remuneration: £11 per hour for first 32 hours per week then additional hours paid at overtime rate of £16.50 per hour.
