We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Gardener:

We are based in St George’s Park, Ditchling Road, within 3 miles of both Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill, set within 250 acres of beautiful gardens and farmlands, in an area of outstanding natural beauty with views overlooking the South Downs.

Tuesday 08:00-17:00
Wednesday 08:00-13:00
Thursday 08:00-17:00
Friday 08:00-17:00
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To assist with the preparation and implementation of planned, regular and responsive gardening services to St George’s Park, as well as supporting with the landscaping programmes and strategies as appropriate.
- Assist in the maintenance of garden equipment and machinery on a weekly basis.
Additional Duties - Grounds:
- To ensure the highest standards of grounds maintenance.
- To assist with ordering of trees, plants, seeds, fertilizers and other materials as required on a regular basis.
- To assist in the soft landscaping of the grounds by maintaining watering, mowing, borders, planting and pruning as required.
- To assist with tree management as required.
- To assist in undertaking in regular inspections of the grounds, identifying required work.
General
- To participate in appropriate training in order to maintain the requirements of the role, including Health and Safety, Emergency first aid at work and including the safe use of Pesticides.
- To act in a responsible manner at all times.
- To be respectful and supportive to residents, visitors and colleagues.
- To comply with the Organisation’s Dress Code at all times.
- To assist with providing the highest quality service, incorporating best standards and practices and to work continually to improve standards promoting the Organisation to residents and visitors.
- To undertake any other duties that might reasonably be required by the Estates Director or Grounds Manager.
Health and Safety
The Assistant must have an understanding of the following responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and must follow these at all times:-
- To ensure all equipment and substances are stored safely and securely and only authorised personnel have access to them.
- To ensure all machines, equipment and tools are used and stored safely.
- To ensure the safety of residents, staff, other visitors and members of the public, where ground work is being undertaken.
- To adhere to Health and Safety practices and procedures in line with the Organisation’s Policies and Procedures.
- To assist with the gritting of pathways around the site during the winter months as dictated by the weather.
- To assist in maintenance of machinery and equipment, ensuring its proper care and compliance with the Health and Safety standards.

Previous experience would be preferable, but we would be will to train the right person.
