As well as providing an innovative Consultation Service to Schools and Children’s Social Work Teams Carmarthenshire Educational and Child Psychology Service is involved in key initiatives to support implementation of the person-centred and inclusive principles of the ALNET Act (Wales) and the Whole School Approach to Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health including ELSA and Trauma Informed supervision.
The post of Assistant Educational Psychologist is to assist the role of the Educational and Child Psychologist which is concerned chiefly with the provision of specialist advice, guidance, training and support for schools, children and young people and their families, and other professionals in meeting the full range of additional developmental and educational needs within an inclusive local authority.
The role also involves a wider brief in optimising the learning development of all children and the prevention of learning and social and emotional difficulties.
Specific duties and the emphasis of the role may vary in accordance with the changing needs and responsibilities of the Education and Children’s Service Department and the community at large.
The post holder would be expected to take on the full range of consultation activities, to include assessment, joint problem solving, casework, training, coaching, supporting delivery of specific interventions for which you have been trained, project and research tasks, under the supervision of a qualified HCPC registered Educational Psychologist.
This will enable the post holder to gain relevant experience prior to applying for a place on a recognised Doctorate Educational Psychology training course.
This post is currently grant funded and will work mainly within the Emotional Health Team for Looked After Children using Attachment Aware and Trauma Informed practices to support children and young people’s emotional wellbeing under the supervision of a Senior Educational and Child Psychologist. There will also be opportunities to work with the whole Educational and Child Psychology Service.
The ability to speak Welsh and to have had training in therapeutic interventions with children, young people and their families/carers is desirable and support for learning is available.
