About the Role
Base Location: Perth / Inverness / Glasgow
The base location will be either Perth, Glasgow or Inverness however the role may require occasional travel to project locations as and when required.
Salary: £32,600 - £48,800 + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the role?
Working within the Commercial Performance team, you will be an instrumental part in supporting the Delivery Teams to implement the £12 billion investment portfolio of work required to deliver our network for net zero. The team provide Analysis, Cost Metrics, Cost Modelling and Benchmarking information that allow the Business to make decisions and form strategies based on solid data foundations. Through analysis of cost and asset data, as the Assistant Commercial Cost Analyst, you will be expected to work with Project Managers, Contract Managers and other stakeholders from around the Business. You will source, interrogate, validate and produce high quality cost and asset data for project benchmarking, the production of cost metrics and use in estimating future projects.
As a result of increased project expenditure within the growing portfolio of projects, you will be expected to support in the development of cost and volume reporting and data capture format, including support with any new digital cost/ data analysis/ estimating solutions.
The role requires some previous experience in:
- Cost and asset volume analytical capabilities to ensure all projects are reported on a consistent basis and can be evaluated for use in project benchmarking.
- Production of cost metrics for pricing future projects. You will follow established policy and procedures to ensure a consistent approach is applied across all projects.
- Gathering, processing and cleansing large volumes of technical data into defined structures ready for analysis and use in performance analysis.
- The maintenance of rule sets, processes and procedures required for data collation and its use to ensure it is kept relevant and in line with the business needs.
- Design, development and maintenance of reports and dashboards that incorporate data from a wide range of sources for a range of internal stakeholders.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would expect you to have:
- Previous experience as an Analyst involving cost data collection, Quantity Surveying or engineering including technical asset data collection would be advantageous.
- Excellent organisation and planning skills with the ability to work to deadlines and still deliver quality output whilst dealing with changing priorities and managing your own time effectively whilst still delivering accurate and complete data and information.
- The ability to use Excel and Power BI to provide cost and asset volume benchmarking reports and the production of cost metrics for analysing the performance of projects and portfolios.
- The ability to work collaboratively for common goals. The Commercial Cost Analyst will work alongside a team with diverse responsibilities and will support the compilation and reporting of departmental KPIs and objectives such as savings in total cost of ownership, value engineering and safety performance.
- A high degree of numeracy with an ability to interpret complex information and present the information logically. Familiarity with technical drawings and scope documents would be advantageous but is not essential.
