This post will survey and stockcheck key parts of University Archives, including identifying uncatalogued and duplicate material and sorting them for retention, cataloguing or disposal.
UE06: £29619.00 - £34308.00 Per Annum.
ISG / L&UC / Special Collections / Research Collections.
Fixed Term Contract - 4 Months; Full Time - 35 Hours Per Weeks.
We are looking to recruit an Assistant Archivist to carry out specific collections management tasks on University Archives collections for 4 months, ending 31st July 2023.
The Opportunity:
This post sits within the Research Collections team within the Heritage Collections (Research & Curatorial) section. The Heritage Collections (Access & Engagement) section and the Heritage Collections (Research & Curatorial) section work in a converged environment with a central hub at the Centre for Research Collections (CRC) at the Main Library in George Square.
The Research Collections team is responsible for collections development and engagement services across all Heritage Collections. It consists of the Research Collections Manager, the Musical Instruments Collections Curator, the Art Collections Curator (who manages one Assistant Art Collections Curator), the Rare Books and Literary Collections Curator (who manages the Modern Literary Curator), the Scottish and University Collections Archivist (who manages the University Records Archivist and the Scottish Collections Curator), the Digital Archivist, and the Non-Western Collections Curator. The team also provides curatorial advice and liaison with the Anatomical Museum Curator and the Cockburn Museum Curator.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- Follow an established workflow to accurately identify University Corporate Archives and record their physical location within the collections store.
- Label and/or re-house materials to improve collections identification according to internal guidance.
- Maintain and report accurate statistics on work being carried out on a regular basis to key contacts within Heritage Collections as requested.
- Any other duties required to facilitate collections management as required by heritage Collections archivists or librarians.
