Job Title - Assistant Accountant
Salary – Circa £38,000 per annum (dependent on experience) plus excellent benefits
Location – Pier Walk, London with Hybrid ways of working
Contract Type – Fixed Term Contract / Secondment – 14 months (TfL)
Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
Overview
The RCC Payments Specialist role sits within the Record to Account team as part of the Business Services Finance function. The role holder supports the team in delivering accurate financial accounting and reporting services on a periodic basis to both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities
- Review and reconcile the balance sheet accounts on a periodic basis producing appropriate working papers, supporting documentation and ensuring issues are identified and escalated where appropriate
- Provide clear reporting to the Manager to enable escalation of issues to the business where appropriate
- Participate in team review meetings and escalate any issues promptly
- Comply with applicable corporate policies, internal controls and procedures
- Deliver against defined process area KPIs
- Work with other areas of the business to resolve outstanding issues by building relationships with the teams within finance and the wider business
Key Interfaces
Accountable to the Manager.
Finance: Work with retained finance across TfL including group finance, tax and treasury as part of any business-as-usual process hand-offs
Business: Work with embedded finance teams in the business units to exchange information where appropriate
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience – all are essential unless otherwise stated
Skills
- Ability to learn and use new financial tools and reporting systems
- Ability to communicate to finance and non-finance audiences
Knowledge
- Accounting qualification (desirable)
- Knowledge of financial accounting principles and standards
- Knowledge to interpret and report financial information and data to a high standard
- Knowledge of reconciliation tools
- Knowledge of financial compliance and reporting requirements including an understanding of business processes, systems, and controls
Experience
- Experience of working in a multi-faceted environment dealing with multiple stakeholders
- Experience in using ERP systems; SAP experience desirable
- Experience of reconciling control accounts in a large and complex organisation
- Extensive experience to manipulate and use complex spreadsheets

Fixed term contract for 14 months
As a fixed term contractor we can offer you a choice of pension arrangements. If you choose not to take our final salary pension scheme you will be paid an allowance on top of your salary, subject to Tax and National Insurance.
