We are looking for someone with an excellent Utility industry background, for a permanent Head of Asset Management and Operations position based in the Channel Islands. This is a Leadership, Technical and Compliance role dealing with the HSE, Compliance, asset maintenance and operations. Salary to circa £75000 per annum plus car allowance, duty rota payments, pension, bonus, relocation allowance and benefits – a £90-95,000 per annum package.
Working as the successful Head of Asset Management and Operations you will have a wide scope of technical and operational responsibilities. The aim of the organisation is safety, whilst ensuring the security and quality of supply, plus the maintenance of the network.
Your excellent utility industry experience will ideally have been gained in utilities or energy, for example operational management of a CCGT power station, or of an Energy from Waste plant, or similar. You will be robust of personality, have good plant operations experience and used to dealing with authorities and the HSE. Your knowledge will include good COMAH and the transport of dangerous goods experience.

Job/Person Summary:
- To develop and implement business strategies ensuring the company complies with all requirements regarding its obligations associated with Asset and Network performance and levels of service.
- To be responsible for developing operational assets by translating operational needs and delivering efficient and effective performance providing maximum return on investments. A key driver in the delivery of company policies and strategies regarding the development, refurbishment and replacement of operational assets ensuring maximum benefit, whilst maintaining compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be considered as the company expert in all matters associated with the performance of operational assets within the company’s business.
- Ensure the company maintains an asset register with data inputted ensuring the company meets contractual and legal obligations associated with levels of service, quality standards and operational performance.
- Prepare short, medium and long-term business plans associated with asset activities necessary to comply with changes in the law or stakeholder commitments.
- Responsibility for supplying stakeholders with reports and data regarding the company’s asset performance. This includes the development of internal performance and efficiency measures.
- Responsibility for designs and project management to ensure the effective completion of COMAH improvement plan items.
- Responsibility for supporting COMAH regulatory inspections.
- Responsibility for the application of the management of change process for capital projects.
- Responsibility for ensuring the asset management function operates in accordance with and adheres to approved policies, management control documents and processes.
- Responsibility for ensuring functional audits are completed to program, performance data is captured and reported as required, in the form of meaningful key performance Indicators.
- Responsibility for establishing technical specification in accordance with defined standards.
- Responsibility for ensuring hazard and risk analysis is completed within the management of capital projects.
- Ensuring the company complies with health and safety regarding asset use and performance.
- Developing capital investment plans to ensure the company enhances its performance through the use of assets.
- Providing expertise and consultancy to staff and business customer(s) alike regarding matters associated with asset performance standards.
- Monitoring regulatory developments in the marketplace, identifying and initiating innovation and ensuring that resultant projects are delivered on time, within budget and to specification.
- Providing bid support to operations or other opportunities as required.
- Lead, direct, appraise, motivate and display role model behaviour to staff, thereby ensuring that staff maximise their potential.
- Providing an appropriate, professional environment manned by skilled, knowledgeable, qualified and experienced staff.
- Continually improve the operation of the staff/processes in their charge.
Problems faced:
- Establishing International best practice standards within the function of asset management and network operations within in a competitive environment.
- Implementation of processes and procedures to ensure the company achieves the maximum efficient use of assets available delivering high quality service.
- Ensuring all activities on the assets are carried out with the objection of maximising service provision and minimising costs and incidents.
Planning and Organising:
- Preparing and implementing strategic policies, processes and plans for short, medium and long-term improvements of the company’s performance regarding asset management.
- Responsibility for the organisation of all resources necessary to deliver asset management functionality.
- Accountability for all expenditure necessary to deliver the required levels of service, quality and performance of assets.
Decision Making:
- Accountability for all strategic and day-to-day decisions associated with asset management.
- Responsibility for all Opex and Capex expenditure within the department.
- Only decisions related to other departments and functions are passed to the Chief Operating Officer for consideration and approval.
Leadership:
- Member of the extended leadership team who shall demonstrate effective leadership within the functional role and more generally in local management issues and decisions.
Working Relations:
- Member of extended leadership team responsible for island and divisional policy and strategy.
- Represent the company in strategic matters regarding asset management with local and national government institutions and other external organisations.
- Head of the management team responsible for asset management and operations.
- Liaise with professional institutions and bodies associated with equipment and assets.
