Purpose of Position
This position enables research activities at UND that require the use of 3D content development and visualization. Under the direction of the UND Advanced Cyberinfrastructure Manager (ACM), this position manages the assets of, and provides end-user training for, the UND Laboratory for Digital Realism in Engineering and the Applied Metaverse (UND DREAM Lab). Additionally, this position is responsible for educating UND faculty and students on the use of 3D scanning, motion capture, content development tools, and other metaverse-related products and devices maintained by the UND DREAM Lab. The position is also expected to provide related educational outreach services to other UND partners as directed by the ACM. Furthermore, this position assists the ACM in the development of funding proposals, publications, and 2D/3D content for inclusion in: the UND DREAM Lab website, traditional print mediums, Digital Engineering/Digital Twin research projects, VR/metaverse research projects, and any related print/digital mediums. Among such activities, this position creates content for Native heritage applications including the Native Dancer metaverse project, which is jointly developed by the UND DREAM Lab and Tribal Nations Research Group.
This position is in person only and not eligible for remote work or a hybrid work arrangement.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Create general 2D/3D digital content Use authoring, design, and data capture tools to develop 2D/3D digital content for:
- Create content based upon Native American cultural themes in collaboration with UND Tribal Partners
- UND DREAM Lab website
- Traditional print mediums
- Digital Engineering/Digital Twin research projects
- VR/metaverse research projects
- Any related print/digital mediums
- Manage content using tracking and collaboration systems as directed by the ACM.
- Assist UND faculty and students with the use of technologies maintained by the UND DREAM Lab.
- Establish and maintain regular office-hours in the UND DREAM Lab space for UND end-users (faculty, students, and staff) to obtain assistance with lab resources.
- Arrange one-on-one help sessions with end-users as needed.
- Regularly schedule and host (virtual or in-person) informational technology events and training workshops for end-users.
- Provide additional assistance to funded research projects that use UND DREAM Lab resources as directed by the ACM.
- Maintain working knowledge of current 2D/3D content development practices.
- Identify and participate in opportunities for professional development and training.
- Attend appropriate technology conferences.
- Seek funding to support professional development.
- Regularly research state-of-the-art 2D/3D content development practices.
- Provide outreach services with UND DREAM Lab partners and stakeholders. As directed by the ACM:
- Plan and execute UND DREAM Lab outreach events.
- Attend meetings and otherwise interact with lab partners and stakeholders.
- Attend partner/stakeholder-planned conferences and events.
- Coordinate with UND BiPed lab on activities related to motion capture and human body movement.
- Identify opportunities for innovative research and workforce development projects and collaborations.
- Assist in the development of funding proposals, presentations, research publications, and other work products to communicate the effectiveness of the UND DREAM Lab.
- Make regular blog posts to UND Computational Research Center blog portal.
- Provide materials, graphics, and text as requested by ACM for funding proposals, presentations, and research publications.
- Complete necessary tasks in order to hit publication, funding, and project deadlines.
- Initiate media, professional paper, and presentation submissions to conferences, journals, and other avenues of publication.
- Create other work products as directed by the ACM.
- Suggest funding opportunities.
- Organize, maintain, and expand the resources, spaces, capabilities of the UND DREAM Lab.
- Identify opportunities to expand lab capabilities through acquisition of new software, hardware, and devices.
- Work with the UNC CRC Cyberinfrastructure (CI) Engineer to 1) keep an accurate inventory list of UND DREAM Lab resources, and 2) assist the CI Engineer with annual inventory process for the lab.
- Establish and enforce policy to maintain an orderly appearance of lab facilities.
- Communicate with Chester Fritz Library staff to enable end-user access to lab resources.
- Communicate problems and issues associated with the lab to the ACM in a timely manner.

- Marvelous Designer for Clothing Design
- uDraper for Unreal 5 Cloth Physics.
- Ability to travel up to 2-4 weeks annually.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts or related field
- Proof of enrollment in a US federally recognized Native American tribe.
- Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check
